Zen and party? That’s an oximoron.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

It is a very heuristic question.

Where does Zen Exist?
Eating, reading, praying, talking, working or sleeping?

Buddhahood or Zen indeed exists all the time.
If people could not live with a Zen party, where should Buddahood align?

Welcome anytime!

Master Guoru Tells His Story at The None
The first time when Master Guoru attended a 7-day retreat led by his teacher, Master Shengyen, the time length of each sitting session was set for almost 2 hours. His legs were swollen up, numb, stinging and painful, so that he dared not to stretch his legs when each session ended. To go to toilet within a 5-minute short break between sessions, he needed to climb on the floor for steps and then lean his hands on the wall to support his ponderous body standing up and slowly moving toward the restroom…
How to meditate from painful to peaceful? How to practice from scattered to concentrated? Master Guoru is going to tell his story at The None Zen Center.
Is Nirvana a brain’s dysfunction?

When practicing Zen, students are always asked to focus on the meditation method without following thoughts, attaching to feelings, nor clinging to perceptions. The question most commonly asked by students is how is it possible and, if so, what will happen.

Jill Bolte Taylor, an American brain scientist woke up one winer morning and found she was experiencing a stroke. It turned out she was bleeding from an abnormal connection between an artery and a vein in the left hemisphere of her brain. This was a disorder she had from birth, and is called an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).

Jill claimed that her stroke led her into a state of Nirvana, where there were no bounderies or discrimination, just a pure, united, vast and endless world. Yet at the same time, she could not speak, tell numbers, she couldn’t feel herself at all.

Is Jill’s experience an example of a state of body and mind which is not following, not attaching, and not clinging? If Jill’s experience is Nirvana, then should we all have brain strokes in order to reach the level? And should we all have a dysfunction to be in Nirvana?

Let’s talk more then.

Zen Experience in the song “Skyfall”

Dedicated Zen practitioners are eager to reach a certain level of Zen experience. Some claim they experience an indescribably peaceful mind, others, immense emptiness. For Chinese Zen masters, these kinds of experiences are still far away from Zen.

The enlightened Chinese Zen masters usually described their Zen experience as “the void falling apart (虛空粉碎)” or “the earth sinking away (大地沉淪)”. What are they talking about? What is the Zen experience like? What kind of experiences can be called a Zen experience?

Student’s sharing: My 6-month learning experience of Doubting Meditation
Cedric Chaux started his Zen meditation in The None Zen Center from Jan. 1st, 2013. After the first 4 weeks’ Beginner’s Class, he was asked to practice Doubting Meditation. He has been bored, scared, frustrated by the method of Doubting Meditation, and yet, gradually he felt slightly eager to look up to his true nature, tried to focus on the doubt as possible as he could, and when his mind was so concentrated, sometimes he could doubt directly without asking any question.

What actually happened to Cedric in his 6 months’ learning period? Did he ever try to run away from the Doubting Meditation? What kept him coming back to the Saturday’s Advanced Class continuingly for half a year? How did the Doubting Meditation help him dealing with his life? Cedric is going to share his learning experience at The None Zen Center.
