Zhang Yimou: Open Fascist

What a fucking sell-out and a creative cypher. No wonder all his recent films have been unwatchable porn to state power. Listen to a few nice quotes from a recent interview regarding the opening and closing ceremonies. God help the Chinese, though no doubt ABC and AC will be perfectly in sync with this.

That those foreign interviewers don’t walk out on him shows just how debasing a rising China is to the entire world. It’s a race to the bottom now that the Han Man is back.
By contrast, he found working in the west, where he has been artistic director for a number of opera performances, something of a shock.

“It was so troublesome,” he said. "They only work four and a half days each week. Every day there are two coffee breaks, and no-one can suffer any discomfort because of human rights.

"This caused me no end of worry. One week, I thought everything had been rehearsed completely without any problems, but in fact they could not even stand in straight lines.
Yeah, no disciplined artists in the west. In fact, none even capable of, yeah, standing in a straight line. You cocksucking piece of cockroach vomit.

Yep, the Han Man stands tall among the pygmie nations of the world.

Hmm, where have we heard that before?
“Like the moveble type cubes (at the opening ceremony), the performers follow orders,” he said. "The actors listen to the orders, and can carry them out like computers. Foreigners admire this. This is the Chinese spirit.

“We can make our human performance reach the level it achieves through hard work and being smart. This many foreigners cannot achieve.”
This man should be reviled for what he is saying. I for one will never pay to see another movie of his.

His formative years were spent playing red guard. He, like so many Chinese, fear chaos, and chaos surrounds their every waking moment.

But don’t hold back!

But what about the 5,000 years of culture. Doesn’t that even get a mention? The Chinese are malleable robots who’ll work for free and can be made to do exactly what they’re told, since their owners don’t have to worry about getting punished when they exploit them, why, they’re almost as great as the North Koreans (and there’s scant praise higher than THAT, as I’m sure you’ll all agree). But not a WORD about the motherland’s 5,000 glorious years of culture.
They invented the paperclip, you know. Or was it gunpowder? I forget.
What movies has this fellow made? Anything half-decent at all?

‘Raise The Red Lantern’ guy.

I dunno. It’s more likely than not that a ‘great artist’ would be a bastard than not, maybe? Fewer boundaries?

Haven’t seen it. That’s one of those 5,000 years of culture-type thingies, isn’t it?

It’s wonderful. It’s actually one of my favourite films ever.

I loved the contrast in the closing ceremony between the Chinese performance and the hand off to the Brits. After watching ad nauseum the “China Great, China Dominate” theme of Zhang’s theater, it was great to see the Brits take the stage with Jimmy Page and a very sexy Leona Lewis singing ‘Whole Lotta Love’. China can have its robots. Give me good old Western individualism any day.

Jimmy Page has got to be the coolest looking over 60’s rocker. :sunglasses:

Holy CRAP! Someone who actually LIKED that travesty? And on these very boards, too! I watched the first 15 seconds on Youtube but had to stop after I threw up a little bit in my mouth. Who the HELL is that bint? She’s utterly AWFUL!
Poor, poor, Jimmy. He used to be a dude, you know.

LZ were just great because they were yang, testosterone, nay, cock itself, musicalified and electrified. Dis is the REAL Olympic sellout, here. The mewl of the castrati!

And as for being “cool looking” damn, boy! He’s up there on a stage with a bad KTV singer in an ugly frock and looking like he’s Karl fucking Lagerfeld. There are plenty of words to describe that pathetic spectacle. Cool 'aint one of them.
Mewl of the Castrati is a mint name for a band, though.

How many times must you be told to spit and not swallow? Especially at your age. :no-no:

It was a great contrast to the Chinese “volunteers” waving their arms like a bunch of mindless dolts. And, I’d take Leona Lewis’ curves over the flat-chested 12 y/o’s the Chinese try to pass off as women any day.

Erm, glad to hear it…

Didn’t Jackie Chan also criticize hollywood a few years back for being too restrictive on his style of shooting films.

Wouldn’t a full text of the interview in Chinese be better to see if that iconoclast Zhang Yimou is as bad as you claim. I’m not a big fan of his films, beside Hero. But that’s more because I am a fan of Jet Li.

Should we start protesting the removal of the monarchy and the liberation of Northern Ireland as a run up to the 2012 games?

regarding good fillums by ZY

imdb.com/title/tt0105197/ is one i enjoyed

The liberation of Northern Ireland? Made me chuckle, there. What ARE you talking about, laddie?

And the monarchy. Again, what ARE you talking about, laddie?

Funny Smerf talking about British individualism, though – that Olympic opening stuff really reminded me more than anything of that marching hammer scene in The Wall. I mean that in a bad way, of course.

Bullshit. It’s not the 70’s anymore and he’s not 25. For a guy in his 60’s, he looks good (better than you I must say  ). I think it’s great that a classic rock icon was brought out to represent London as the 2012 host. I’ve had enough of Chinese nationalism these past 2 weeks.

Zhang Yimou made this…

Stunningly beautiful, heart felt stuff.

Sad to hear him talking such crap now. Really.

But what does it say? "Britain was quite cool in the 70s…’

Zhang Yimou is one heck of a social climber. He made movies that exoticized and demonized China when he thought that would make him the most money and get him the most prestige (as marketing anything with “Banned in China!” is sure to be a hit with the international film crowd.) And then once China got richer and he realized he could make more by kissing the CCP’s collective ass, he changed his tune completely.

I absolutely despise Raise the Red Lantern and the rest of his early movies, except for To Live, which was decent. The Road Home and Not One Less were OK as well, though minor films. I completely agree with Muzha Man’s disgust with Hero.

Zhang Yimou can talk shit about foreigners now, but it was only by kissing foreigner ass and telling them what they wanted to hear about “exotic” feudal China that he made a name for himself.
