Zongzi

The Dragon Boat Festival is coming.
I saw many zong zi order services in the convenient stores.
It maybe a common question.
But I am curious will you plan to get any of them?
What flavour of zongzi do you like?

As a teacher, I usually get a bunch from parents. No need to order.

I just throw them in the river. That’s the tradition, no?

I only eat the chestnut inside …

Can’t eat Zongzi, bad for weak stomach! :frowning:

Some of them are not bad for weak stomach.
You can try the yang sheng zong.

I generally don’t like them or eat them, but am quite partial to the tasty little organic vegetarian ones sold in 棉花田.

Ok, I plead ignorance on this: what are zongzi?

Rice and stuff, wrapped in a leaf. Pyramid shaped.

Thanks.

What’s the best way to store this stuff? Refrigerator in in the wrap out in the open?

I’m not the biggest fan so have already been given more than I can eat in a single sitting.

I usually keep them in the wrapper, in the fridge and then heat them up in a rice cooker when I want to eat them. Or you can just tie them to your belt.

They are OK to freeze as well if you’ve really got a pile of them. I’m really not looking forward to the next couple of weeks. It’ll be nothing but these rice dumplings.

The best ones are peanut Zongzi from Tainan.
My mother is no longer living otherwise it would be my mother’s Zongzi. She made both the savory and the sweet kinds.

I like the wei shen zongzhi. They are the best. Just rice and pork inside. Awesome.

Pork and peanuts for me. I am starting to see them on display at the local markets.

You may want to avoid buying any zongzi this year if you worry about tainted food. Today’s headlines:

Luckily for me family members make them. A wicked vegetarian one and meat ones too.

I like the store on Bade near Taiwan Adventist, across from the fire station.

Not tainted, in this case, but relabeled with 2014 expiry dates after being returned as unsold stock by stores A YEAR AGO.

Wow. Zongzi, the Twinkies of Taiwan.
