And yet again...another shooting rampage in the USA

Here we go again…

http://edition.cnn.com/2015/12/02/us/san-bernardino-shooting/index.html

NOW can we ban guns?

A 3 man attack… on a community center for the disabled. So painful and mindboggling.

2 suspects dead, one being chased by police in a residential area. 14 dead so far, excluding the suspects.

You guys just don’t understand American culture. (sarcasm off)

I just hope at some point the gun lobby (mostly conservative) can admit that there is a problem. Banning guns doesn’t have to happen but I am very, very frustrated by the conservatives that block every single measure of gun control and offer no solutions. They are perfectly willing to say that ‘this stuff just happens’. Yet they treat migrants and minorities as a high priority for national security.

Shooting rampages are extremely rare here in Taiwan.

Oh, look at that: guns are banned here. Imagine that… no guns, no gun deaths!!!

But given the state of gun culture in America, the old phrase “from my cold dead hands” would literally play out if the gun nuts felt like the government was coming for their guns. Gotta find solutions that alleviate at least some of the problem of gun violence without actually banning guns, which will never happen.

I think proper background checks, proper licensing, restriction of types of firearms, restriction of magazine clips etc is as far as it could ever go. Even that gets totally shut down by lobby groups and politicians, but an outright ban? No chance… Literally, there would be 10 million pairs of cold dead hands if they tried that.

Predictable. A bunch of people with Muslim names perpetrate an apparent terrorist attack and the usual gang of idiots bleat out the gun control derp. As if there’s no other conceivable narrative.

Some people just have one track minds.

In unrelated news, some people in Paris are saying the biggest problem around there right now is global warming. Although their carbon footprints belie their sincerity.

Maybe not unrelated. Farook was an environmental specialist with the government. Perhaps we should ban bureaucrats from having guns.

We should pray for the victims.

Meanwhile.
As a result of the nation’s controversial and oppressive gun restrictions, no one has died as a result of a mass-shooting on Australian soil today, for the 7158th day in a row.

Local cinema attendant, Christina Upton can’t believe it has been a whole 19 years and 7 months since a heavily armed white Australian male decided to shoot at a crowd of unsuspecting Australian civilians for no reason.
Commentators on the left are saying it’s stupid to pray for victims. Commentators on the right are saying the left are hypocrites for talking like that when the call for prayers all the time. These positions are not mutually exclusive.

So much derp we need multiple threads for all the subderps.

What are you on about?

Praying is stupid.
Letting psychopaths run around with guns is stupid.
Praying for people killed by psychopaths running around with guns is stupid.

Is there some sort of gap in your logic?

You might want to take that up with all the lefty types who have called for thoughts and prayers for victims of this or that.
Because of the changes made to the gun control laws in 1997, gun owners in Australia were forced to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed, a program costing the government more than $500 million dollars. And now the results are in. After 12 months of banning firearms:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent;

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent).

Hot Burglaries are up 300% (where the intruders come in while you are home and knows that you are home).

In the state of Victoria, homicides with firearms are up 300 percent.
Fixed that for you.

Also…

Homicide rates have almost halved in the past two decades.

But maybe the Australian Govt’s Institute of Criminology, who compiles all the stats, are wrong, and some random blogger using comic sans for a title is right. :loco:

Guns were used and guns are really, really easy to acquire. I am okay if you want to argue that people kill people (and not guns) but I would love to hear some ideas about how to keep guns out of those people’s hands.

How to lie with statistics.

Let me spell it out for you, here:

Gun violence has gone down in the US over the years, in case you’re wondering. The news carries a lot of mass shootings since the Dems took over the White House, but what that proves is debatable.

Try some lateral thinking. Put guns in the hands of everyone else and we’ll have lots more of those abortive mass shootings that don’t start a derpalanche because only the attacker died.

You do know this happens, right? Well, let’s make it happen more.
