Happy Year of the Rooster

Hope it’s a great one for all you fine Forumosans! Out with the old, in with the new! Have a fun day, weather is cooperating. A good omen

Inquiry: what’s the origin of the English translations of these names? Why usually “Rooster”, not “Chicken”? Often “Rat”, not “Mouse”? My guess is because the former of those sound a bit more poetic / noble, but I don’t know.

Anyway, Happy Year of the Cock for all of you! May the Cock bring you good fortune and wealth in the coming year! I hope all of you have festooned your homes with pictures of cocks for luck. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to seeing Taiwan’s giant cock at the upcoming Lantern Festival.

(No, I’m not ten years old. Why do you ask?)
