Does anyone know what is the cheapest option for me to travel to hehuanshan from hualian/Taroko Gorge?
I will be biovacking in Taroko Gorge the night before. I’m looking roughly for transport options that are cheapest firstly. Even if I have to cycle, so be it. Or even walk and biovac by the roads.
Once I reach Hehuanshan, I will be spending 1 night at the carpark.
Sorry for the ignorance, but what’s biovacking? Backpacking?
Cheapest would most definitely be walking. It’ll take you a few days and you would have to bring a lot of food with you since there’s not too many stores in the gorge.
A bike rental from Hualien would probably run you around 400NT a day, but are not really geared for long distance riding or even taking up to He Huan Shan.
If you’re in Taipei, you can head over to the Nanjing Giant to rent one of their endurance road bikes. You can request it be sent to the Hualien Giant and pick up and drop off in Hualien. Not sure what the rates are, give them a FB message, their English is not too bad:
