Koncerned kwestion about K9 Kuisine

OK, I’ve never eaten any Fido.
It’s never presented itself to me as an opportunity, but if it did, I’d say no.
Not that I have any major moral objections, mind you.
I grew up with plenty of kids who had pet pigs and ducks and chickens that they adored every bit as much as people do their dogs and cats.
I’ve had emotional attachments with horses that were no less valid than those I’ve had with dogs
( cats, anyone wants to eat them, I’ll pass the friggin ketchup ).
Since pretty much any major objections (including legislation) to the practice are emotionally based I have a hard time crediting them much.
But here’s my real query, and it’s one I’ve never heard addressed.

Traditionally, conventionally, as any hunter or outdoorsman knows, we don’t eat carnivorous mammals. The meat is singularly unpalatable.
Nobody (unless maybe in a survival situation) ever eats wolves or tigers or lions.
Only herbivores.
So how is it, then, that dog meat is even edible, let alone actually tasty, according to practitioners?

Because they’re raised to be eaten, fed special diets and kept in cages so their meat is more tender and juicy. That’s why they’re called “meat dogs.”
