Taiwanese International Drivers License after leaving Taiwan

Hi,

I am leaving Taiwan soon. I have Taiwanese licenses (car & bike) and would like to get an IDL, and eventually convert to a local license in both Europe (possible only with additional driving test) and Japan (leaving Taiwan for the latter).

Does anyone know what happens to my licenses, Taiwanese and IDL, when my ARC gets cancelled?

I think expiration of driver’s license in relation to a ARC has been discussed here before. But I don’t know the answer.

I would retain my own copy of driver’s license and take it to the next country and try to use that to exchange for a driver license of that country. Of course probably need to do some research in advance to find out the exact requirements.

So I went to the DMV and asked, while getting my IDL. According to the guy, licenses are valid for their respective validity periods, no matter whether or not you have an ARC. But you can only renew it with an ARC.
