My father passed away a couple of years ago and his estate in the UK has just cleared probate, leaving me with a lump sum upon which all UK taxes have been paid. I have an APRC, I am married to a local and have been in Taiwan for almost 20 years. I have no address, bank accounts, drivers license or any other residential ties to anywhere other than Taiwan
My questions:
Is the inheritance taxable in Taiwan?
Does the answer to this question depend on whether or not I bring it into Taiwan?
If I bring it into Taiwan, what kind of documentation would I need for the tax authorities?
I’d be happy to pay someone for a consultation if I knew who to consult. I live in the south and can travel anywhere from Chiayi to Pingtung if anyone has a suggestion or recommendation.
