I’ve had good experience with Mountain House freeze dried food, and was wondering where I could find some #10 cans of the stuff.
If not, is there anything else out there as good as Mountain House? In #10 can size?
Here’s an idea of what I’m looking for:
Chili Mac with Beef
Rice and Chicken
Sweet & Sour Pork with Rice
Also, does anyone have any idea why FEMA has suddenly jumped in and bought a couple billion dollars of Freeze Dried food? I just found this out last night, and it’s got my curiosity going.

Inventory control maybe? They don’t just buy this stuff all at once and I guess that even with a 25-year shelf life it eventually becomes even less edible than it already is. Or maybe they’ve been given budget and have decided that this stuff is more efficient that army surplus MREs?
Or MAYBE! They’re anticipating the end of the world and aren’t telling anybody! It COULD be true!

Or, ALIENS! YESSSS. The aliens are coming and we are all going to DIE!
Cue R.E.M. - It’s The End Of The World.
(And, I really do feel fine)
If we are going to die … we don’t need freeze dried food …
True.
But, since I don’t intend on dying just YET… I’d like some good (or great) quality freeze dried food.
Does anyone know where to get any? In, like, those #10 cans, and not the dinky little pouches?
what size is a number 10 can? bigger or smaller than a 44 gallon drum?
and why can freeze dried food?

Each can is about 2.5 to maybe 3 liters in size and they’re just a better value than the pouches.
Why freeze dried? Well, it keeps a long time, and it’s a fairly easy and cheap way to whip up something to eat without nagging the wife.
True enough, but why can it? Foil pouches are a lot more portable, and one may not need to eat 44 kilograms of goulash at once.
just sayin’s all.

Full disclosure: I ndeed used to buy this stuff years ago. Not that particular brand, but much the same. We used to buy it and spend fecking HOURS spooning the filthy shit into ziplock bags for overnighters when it wasn’t practical to waste pack weight with food at the expense of fags and whisky. Horrible stuff that I cannot imagine anyone actually WANTING to eat unless there’s nothing else available apart from heather shoots. And the heather shoots are MUCH tastier, trust me!
