1000cc sports bikes VS 600cc sports bikes

A friend of mine is lending me his Yamaha R1 (1000cc) for the weekend…maybe I’ll change my mind about these bikes…or die…one or the other.

I bought a new GSXR600 in 98 and sold it in 2001 (the day I left for Taiwan).

Over the 3 years, I dumped money into making it keep up with my bud’s R1 and thought maybe it was fat ass that made it seem impossible.

We swapped… It took one twist of the throttle to realize that “there’s no replacement for displacement”, huge torque difference and its cornering feedback was just a bit slower but wasn’t worth mentioning. I blew him away in the corners on the R1.

Big bore bikes ARE more fun. I rented an R1 in Pattaya, 48hrs for $18CDN??? 275km/h with no helmet… I would’ve gone faster but the Cambodian border came up in about 30mins and my cheeks were flapping infront of my eyes. I thought my face was going to rip off.

Asia rules.

I think both bikes are kinda bogus in Taiwan though. The roads here are from my dreams :smiling_imp: in Canada… but the uncertainties of the people on them here :noway: is insane once you get over 140kph, ya?

Hey Mordeth. I was looking at he TT report you posted. What does “No Class” mean? Does it say something about the rider or that the bike could have a big-bore kit and a nitrous bottle sprayin’?

No Class prob means that’s it’s an open race…with different types of vehicles.

1000cc bikes aren’t really in their element until above 150km/hr in my opinion. Most 600s can do the quarter mile in 11secs…but I read about a proffessional rider than did it in under 10 on a stock 600…so I’d say it’s mainly rider.

The rider is from my other forum…he didn’t have nitro or anything like that…no one on that forum does. It’s pretty rare to do that to a bike except for in hollywood (biker boyz).

Are you serious? When was the last time you lived in N. America. I went back this summer for 4 months and I saw it on a bike more than twice. They put it under the solo seat everytime. I also saw dodge neons with 19" spinners… I’m never going back :frowning:.

That’s for another discussion though. Sorry.

Well, on the two sportsbike forums that I’m on www.600rr.net I don’t know of one person who has nitro…and that’s out of hundreds of riders. So I was going by that. But maybe in the 1000cc crowd it’s more popular. I think if you were into drag racing (and that’s what nitro is mainly good for) you’d be buying a 1000.

Mordeth, So how about your thoughts on litre bikes now that you’ve ridden an R1…I’m curious to know your feelings about this…

Cheers

I was curious to know how they’d be as well. I used to hate sports bikes (well…not hate, but I thought they were pretty stupid)…all of them…back when I used to ride a cruiser. And we all know how my position on that has changed.

But alas, my “friend” backed out last minute. Can’t say I blame him…I was kinda nervous about borrowing it myself. One crash and there goes my life savings. It’s different if it’s your own bike.

ah, well…that’s too bad!..better luck next time!.. :s
And now before you think I’m just bragging. I have had my ass handed to me a few times. By who? By Taiwanese riding 600s.
.
The “Taiwanese” are probably employed on week days as small blue truck drivers.

They don’t quite have a handle on gravity and the effects on cornering, it becomes obvious when you see the little trucks lying on their backs like turtles in trouble.

So, yes, they are going to be passing you but only until their prescheduled hospital visit date arrives.

I’d have to disagree with that one. I find the opposite is usually true.

How many times have you seen a car braking for the slightest little bend in the road. It’s like their brain says “OH NO! THE ROAD ISN’T PERFECTLY STRAIGHT!!! WHAT AM I GONNA DO?!?” I’ve been on the fricking freeway which doesn’t have any 90 degree turns…just a few slight bends…and people brake for them… :loco:

Blue trucks have brakes? :unamused:

I’m speaking of Taiwanese drivers in general…cars.

Have to agree with both Mordeth and Ironman. Yes there are some people who brake for anything resembling a corner but there are also some lousy mountain road drivers who don’t brake for anything at all and often take up half the opposite lane on corners. And yes I have seen a couple of SUVs in the ditch on the outside of corners. (Harder to see the ones who came off where there wasn’t a ditch or safety barrier, I suppose.)
