I haven’t been a foreigner here since 1998 so no do not know what foreigners rights I may have missed out on. The only thing I did not do on my ARC was vote. Everything else I was able to do from 1989 to 1998 on my ARC.
Was on IDP for driving for over a year ( stamped at DMV ) but got my drivers license in 1990. Was told it was impossible. Main issue was very few people had an ARC back then.
my drivers license length was linked to my ARC but I think it was three years then another three years can’t remember how long it was when changed to citizen. They made it to old age I believe in the last ten years cannot remember.
No idea what you mean by me benefitting from foreigners rights. Foreigners rights have not been an issue for me for over 25 years.
Yes people try to improve things. That’s part of living in a society.
Hartzell did a lot for foreigners rights like getting APRC JFRV and driver license issues. But none of that benefitted me. I was already a citizen.

A lot of services like NHI ( 1995 ) etc did not exist before I naturalized. So yes some changes were for all not just a foreigner thing.
You might want to read up then, might have a better idea what folks are talking about koving forward in terms of evolution and fighting for human rights your privileges were built on the backs of others. As are peoples rights now built on the backs of the previous.
Taiwan wasn’t a very open country before…ya know. (?). That’s why it’s nice we fight for others, even if it doesn’t directly affect you this second.
People that watch this trash, especially those that only watch TV, are part of the problem we need to start solving. My proxy is always we need to educate kids better in schools so they aren’t drones watching this trailer trash level crap.

I did all the things foreigners were telling me could not be done in the 1980’s and 1990’s. I just got lucky I guess. I was too busy doing my own thing to be worried about what other foreigners were telling me could or could not be done in this country on an ARC. My priviliges in this country certainly didn’t come from any foreigners living here. Good luck with getting the renunciation requirement removed. You’re going to need that and a little bit more from the politicians in this country.

Holy fuck, 吳子龍 is such a grifter. I think it was last year I was walking with my girlfriend near 新竹公園, there was some sort of event going on and I could hear what sounded like really bad KTV going on. When we got closer, turned out it was him doing a live concert of a horribly sung 台語 song. Turned out he was peddling a new “album.” Sometimes I wish I had no shame and could cash grab like that.
No wonder why foreigners don’t get much privileges. Only very few people like Hartzell did some great things.
But many, like Hartzell once becoming citizens become disillusioned because the foreign community as a whole don’t do much real legwork (other than complain on forums or sign petitions that someone who hasn’t even been here 5 years has made)

I’m kind of curious where you are hearing this. I work multiple jobs, have kid, also just make time for thungs I care about, often for free or even at cost to myself. As do most foreigners I know. I’m just curious what your reply is getting at in terms of what I said. Thats been my whole point this thread. we should do more, care more, even if a person already did it and has gone native and is super cool. It’s still worth working harder to better other peoples lives…if anything, once someone has achieved such levels of amazing Ness, I would argue it’s even more important theyvpush harder than the poorest that are still digging their way upwards.
The counterargument to that though is Taiwan doesn’t pay for HIV treatment for foreigners now. That was the compromise. Meaning that APRC foreigners who contract HIV in Taiwan are not covered. (I’d say that made things worse… I would prefer there to be no HIV foreigners coming to Taiwan and Taiwan treat those who do contract it (in Taiwan preferably but nothing stopping them from travelling…) after getting residency.
