50 Greatest Conservative Rock Songs

Don’t know if this one should go here or in the Entertainment forum- mods, feel free to move-
From NRO- 50 Greatest Conservative Rock Songs:

The Top Three:
1. “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” by The Who.
The conservative movement is full of disillusioned revolutionaries; this could be their theme song, an oath that swears off na?ve idealism once and for all. “There’s nothing in the streets / Looks any different to me / And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye. . . . Meet the new boss / Same as the old boss.” The instantly recognizable synthesizer intro, Pete Townshend’s ringing guitar, Keith Moon’s pounding drums, and Roger Daltrey’s wailing vocals make this one of the most explosive rock anthems ever recorded — the best number by a big band, and a classic for conservatives.

  1. “Taxman,” by The Beatles.
A George Harrison masterpiece with a famous guitar riff (which was actually played by Paul McCartney): “If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street / If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat / If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat / If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.” The song closes with a humorous jab at death taxes: “Now my advice for those who die / Declare the pennies on your eyes.”

  2. “Sympathy for the Devil,” by The Rolling Stones.
Don’t be misled by the title; this song is The Screwtape Letters of rock. The devil is a tempter who leans hard on moral relativism — he will try to make you think that “every cop is a criminal / And all the sinners saints.” What’s more, he is the sinister inspiration for the cruelties of Bolshevism: "I stuck around St. Petersburg / When I saw it was a time for a change / Killed the czar and his ministers / Anastasia screamed in vain
Interesting: I have always seen it as equally embraceable by liberals in an anarchistic/libertarian-left sort of way. It shows mistrust of government authority who, whether liberal or conservative, are in it for themselves rather than for the people.

As for Taxman, even the most ardent liberal would agree with the Beatles (a very liberal band) that 95% taxation is insanely high.

However, strangely enough, I would put the unlikely song “Bodies” by the Sex Pistols on the list because of these lines:

She was a girl from birmingham
She just had an abortion
She was a case of insanity
Her name was pauline she lived in a tree
She was a no one who killed her baby

For the record, I’ll agree with #1, and you could add the whole of “Tommy”

#2- Yeah, the Beatles were actually paying a 95% tax rate in the UK.

#3- Given the subject, a liitle more ambiguous:
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made

I shouted out,
Who killed the kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Money can’t buy everything it’s true
But what it can’t buy, I can’t use
Gimme money money
That’s what I want

Your love can be such a thrill
But your love don’t pay no bills
Gimme money money
That’s what I want

Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and your O.K.
Money it’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I’ll buy me a football team
Money get back
I’m all right Jack keep your hands off my stack.
Money it’s a hit
Don’t give me that do goody good bullshit
I’m in the hi-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
Money it’s a crime
Share it fairly but don’t take a slice of my pie
Money so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a rise it’s no surprise that they’re
giving none away

Black. White. Barbed wire.
Politician’s funeral pyre.
Innocents raped with napalm fire.
21st century schitzoid man.

Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
Happier than you and me
Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see
Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
One chromosome too many
Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
And it determined what he could see
And he wore a hat
And he had a job
And he brought home the bacon
So that no one knew
Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
His friends were unaware
Mongoloid, he was a mongoloid
Nobody even cared

They tell us that
We lost our tails
Evolving up
From little snails
I say it’s all
Just wind and sails
Are we not men?
We are DEVO
Are we not men?
D. E. V. O.

This will freak you out. MP3 of Mongoloid done a capella by German vocal group PopChor Berlin:

Hmmm… conservative rock… is this anything like christian rock?

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of death’s construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait 'til their judgement day comes
Yeah!

Now in darkness world stops turning
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees the war pig’s crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing spreads his wings
All right now!

I don’t think SFD is conservative or liberal. :s

I’ll take you down to that bright city mile —
there to powder your sweet face and paint on a smile,
that will show all of the pleasures and none of the pain,
when you join my explosion
and play with my games.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.
No unconditional surrender; no armistice day —
each night I’ll die in my contentment and lie in your grave.
While you bring me water and I give you wine —
let me dance in your tea-cup and you shall swim in mine.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.
Open your windows and I’ll walk through your doors.
Let me live in your country — let me sleep by your shores.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.

The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It’s Heaven and Hell, oh well
And they’ll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you’re on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You’ll get the chance to put the knife in.

When I die and they lay me to rest,
I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best.
When they lay me down to die,
I’m going up to the spirit in the sky.

Going up to the spirit in the sky;
That’s where I’m gonna go when I die.
When I die and they lay me to rest,
I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best.

Prepare yourself, you know it’s a must;
Gotta have a friend in Jesus.
So you know that when you die,
He’s gonna recommend you to the spirit in the sky.

Goin on up to the spirit in the sky
That’s where you’re gonna go when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You’re gonna go the the place that’s the best.

Never been a sinner I’ve never sinned.
I’ve got a friend in Jesus.
So you know that when I die,
He’s gonna set me up with the spirit in the sky.

Goin on up to the spirit in the sky,
That’s where I’m gonna go when I die.
When I die and they lay me to rest
I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best.

Maybe you collect or maybe you pay
Still got to work that eight hour day
Whether you like that job or not
Keep it on ice while you’re lining up your long shot
Which is to say, hey-ey

Keep your day job
Don’t give it away
Keep your day job
Whatever they say

Ring that bell for whatever it’s worth
When Monday comes, don’t forget about work
By now you know that face on your dollar
Got a thumb to its nose and a hand on your collar
Which is to say, hey-ey

Keep your day job
Don’t give it away
Keep your day job
Whatever they say

Punch that time card, check that clock
But when Monday comes gotta run, run, run - not walk

Keep your day job
Don’t give it away
Keep your day job
Whatever they say

Steady boy, study that eight day hour
But don’t underrate that pay-check power
If you ask me, which I know you don’t
I’d tell you to do what I know you won’t
Which is to say, hey-ey

Keep your day job
Don’t give it away
Keep your day job
Whatever they say

Daddy may drive a V-8 'vet
Mama may bathe in champagne yet
God bless the child with his own stash
Nine to five and a place to crash

Keep your day job
Don’t give it away
Keep your day job
Whatever they say
Keep your day job, until your night job pays
Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the Southland
I miss Alabamy once again
And I think its a sin, yes

Well I heard mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don’t need him around anyhow

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you

In Birmingham they love the governor
Now we all did what we could do
Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you
Here I come Alabama

Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
And they’ve been known to pick a song or two
Lord they get me off so much
They pick me up when I’m feeling blue
Now how about you?

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you

Sweet home Alabama
Oh sweet home baby
Where the skies are so blue
And the governor’s true
Sweet Home Alabama
Lordy
Lord, I’m coming home to you
Yea, yea Montgomery’s got the answer

The general scratches his belly and thinks
His pay is good but his officers stink
Guerilla girl, hard and sweet
A military man would love to meet
The President looks in the mirror and speaks
His shirts are clean but his country reeks
Unpaid bills
In Afghanistan hills

Bombs away
But we’re OK
Bombs away
In old Bombay
