[Context: Sending my child to private school; I’m not teaching]
This is wild - TIL that if there’s a majority vote at a school if kids are being sick (initiated by 2 parents requesting a vote), ALL kids will stay at home for an entire week!
…and this can repeat over and over if they return and kids get sick again.
While this happens, $0 tuition is refunded in the private school I pay like $1k USD/mo for kiddo to attend.
It’s pretty much pure profit$$ to the owners of the school. Woww, I bet private school owners profited insanely during the peak of Covid. If I was an evil school owner, I’d inject a few “parents” inside the groups and initiate votes over and over. Imagine not having to pay the teachers for a week at a time, then pocketing that sweet tuition money.
Meanwhile, I have to now hire babysitters while I work; an entire weeks worth. At last second notice… the school owners should pay for a babysitter stipend if this happens since the tuition money is just sitting there without being used or refunded.
To add to this… why can’t the paranoid parents just keep their own kids at home if they don’t want their kid to potentially get sick? Why do they have to punish us all?
Unless it’s a life-threatening disease (it’s not), let the kids get sick if their immune system is low. Their immunity systems will be bogus later in life if this keeps happening; they need to build those immune systems while young. They sort of need to get sick while young → then that particular strain won’t be contagious to them again anyway until the next wave comes in.
Very true, why it’s so important to contract viruses such as Cov19 when young.
In fact there are many other strains of coronavirus in circulation that were precious pandemics but we didn’t have any issues with them as we get infected with them when young…my theory is that Cov19 will never be a problem for future adults , even unvaccinated, as they would have caught it when they are young.
One of the caveats for this is the flu virus which can wreak damage on young children.
The other issue is with the part of the immune system that affects allergies. Similar deal.
If the immune system is under stimulated to certain antigens or even in general (low parasitic load) it is thought that it then goes into over drive when older.
Not sure this is the case.
The private schools I am familiar with all have salaried teaching staff. If classes are canceled, teachers still get paid.
But to your point about voting…yeah thats annoying. I do know some schools will allow students to temporarily attend other homerooms while their homeroom is closed. You need to push for it though.
It is only for certain sicknesses. In the past, the classes were automatically closed once two or three kids were sick.
Now, it at least goes to a vote if two or three kids have it.
The whole not returning money thing is bs. The theory is that if schools had to return money, they wouldnt be honest about how many are sick and what they are sick with.
I was going to ask that.
For our children school, online classes are offered in such circumstances; alternatively, parents unable to supervise children at home may still send them to school.
