Some really big news out of the Legislature. KMT/TPP alliance just enacted an amendment to the Employment Service Act that will allow employers to hire a migrant caregiver if the employer is over 80 with no Barthles Index score.
In other words, about 530,000 employers are now eligible to hire migrant caregives for 20k/month and no protections under the Labor Standards Act.
Exactly. There will be an orgy of exploitation, diversion into non-caregiving jobs, and massive expansion of the underground undocumented migrant work force. Many other implications too.
I don’t know if foreigners are eligible though. Doubt it. Will have to wait to see the text of the Act as amended.
My mother in law in 79 in March so that means the following year she could get a care helper. At least they would have a nice place to stay up here and not be overly burdened.
they need to provide a open work rights provision for anyone “imported” as a caretaker to lessen the chance of abuse by the employer. I guess 20k ntd is going to be the going rate even if this is below TW minimum wage?
There needs to be provision for a room with certain amenities and hours per day they need to work set up and guaranteed one day off a week, etc.
workers rights need to be upheld or else abuse is going to happen. Its a given.
Any such caretaker should receive open work rights good for a year in case their charge dies or they are not in compliance of the minimum requirements, are being abused and threatened, etc.
