8-digit (not 9-digit) ID number in old ROC passport

I don’t know for sure, but that company MONTORU that I linked to above may be able to help you even if you don’t travel to Taiwan. From their webpage, I think they have an office in Taiwan and they are willing to do some tasks for you in Taiwan (like travel to the Taiwanese BOCA to get documents authenticated for you) even if you cannot travel to Taiwan yourself. Therefore, it might be worth contacting that company and asking if they can help you look up your relative’s information, even if you cannot travel to Taiwan.

the museum site collects several passports, and gives description on them. it seems at least passports in 1974 and 1975 (maybe 1969 – 1977 version) didnt have printed ID numbers. 1989 (1980 – 1995 version) already had the ID printed.
