I don’t think it has to be the U.K. as the destination. Think it can be any country with up to 5 layovers.
Good luck, but it’s redundant if your travel is not an emergency like your trying to get home and can’t wait for a new passport. I’m also not sure if the British Office Taipei has authority to issue them, they don’t have authority to issue many other documents.
I am getting a new UK passport sent to me here in Taiwan. I understand I need to update the passport number on my ARC/Gold Card. Is that the only thing I need to do to leave the country smoothly? Just checking since I would have come in and left Taiwan on different passport numbers. Thanks

I did it a couple of years ago. It’s so ridiculously simple now. Go to the gov site. First，read thoroughly the information on the requirements for the photo, especially since you’re taking your official passport picture yourself. Next, fill in forms. Next pay money. Lastly, mail in your old passport. That’s it. It’s so beyond easy.
Not British, but that sounds incredibly tedious compared to what I have to do.
It’s really not so bad. Some of the photo requirements and stuff seem to be geared toward people who need to be told that they shouldn’t wear a motorcycle helmet.
From memory, the site gives a pretty idiot-proof guide of what’s necessary while applying from abroad.
Maybe the bit about getting someone in an official/semi-official position to validate your photo could be a bit of a pain, for a person newly living abroad.
If you currently have a valid biometric passport believe you can just use your phone for the photo

I just fill out a form, bring photos and it’s ready within several days. In Toronto, the consulate would print mine in front of me.

you forgot to mention the 3 to 6 month wait to get an appointment at the Canadian trade office, having to physical meet with an officer, having to have professional pictures taken and the paper forms. no, UK is light years ahead.
I didn’t say at home. You get standard passport photos, bring them to the consulate and they print your passport in front of you

that’s it.. uk is,100% online. it’s also so ridiculously easy. The hardest part was taking the pictures. it amounts to…take a picture, send in your old passport.
Canada is a royal pain in the ass for passports.

I’ve never done the Canadian passport overseas.
My renewed passport was sent three days ago from the UK; however, I haven’t received any tracking code or anything like that. Is that normal procedure? How long did it take for you to receive yours? Thanks.
