I’m a contributor to a new project: PaoBaoDao (跑寶島), and I wanted to share it with the community here.
We wanted to make it easier for everyone—locals and expats alike—to find the most suitable or scenic races across the island.
What is PaoBaoDao? It’s a clean, bilingual (English & Traditional Chinese) directory and search engine for upcoming races in Taiwan. Whether you are looking for a city 10K, coastal marathon, a mountain trail run, or your next triathlon, you can filter by:
Location: Find races from Taipei to Taitung.
Distance: Filter for everything from 5K fun runs to full Marathons.
Deadlines: See exactly how many days are left to register so you don’t miss out.
The site, designed and built entirely in Taiwan, is a work in progress, and we are building it for the running community here. It’s completely ad-free and focused on getting you the info you need to get to the starting line.
If you notice any missing races or have suggestions on how we can make the tool more useful for the international community in Taiwan, please let me know in the comments or shoot me a message!
I totally understand the frustration. To clarify: The screenshot you provided is of the external race organizer’s website.
PaoBaoDao currently serves as a bilingual directory and index to help runners find and track races across Taiwan in one place. However, the actual registration still takes place on the respective organizer’s platform, which we don’t control.
That said, you’ve highlighted exactly why we’re building this. We plan to add intermediate bilingual landing pages for each race to provide curated English details (logistics, course info, and requirements) before you head to the registration site. We’re taking your feedback as a sign that we need to prioritize this feature.
is in any way intended to help the international community in Taiwan, it’s clearly designed and targetting at a local audience, throwing a couple of English words in here and there just underlines it’s a Taiwanese website.
Thanks again @SuperS54 for your detailed feedback. Please see inline comments:
Prior to your feedback, our approach was to avoid translating names if no official English title was provided by the race organizer. However, you’re right—that makes the event far less accessible to English speakers. We have now provided translated names for races that originally only had Chinese names.
If this is the goal, I think your list is a great start.
As far as I can see, you have the dates, the cities/counties, the name of the races in Chinese and English, the distances, road or trail, deadlines for registration and link to the organizers’ sites. You offer filter for date range, race type, region, and distances. And filter for registration deadline and event date. Also a search box.
I think this is a great help for anyone trying to find a race. Of course you can add more helpful info and functions.
For example, it’s not super clear that you can click on the orange box to get to the registration site. You could add : “Click here to go to registration site” or sth like that. Also you could let foreigners know whether each registration site is bilingual or not (most are not). Also, for each entry I would perhaps add a box “Special info” where you could include info on transportation and other special considerations, especially if there is no English information on those official sites. Maybe one sentence about what makes each race special, challenging, how many people usually participate, if it has a lot of foreign participants, what services they offer, etc. Of course, this is just optional, if you just provide the list as is, and most importantly, update it frequently, this is already a good tool for people who need to check the race calendar. Keep up the good work!
