A month of Keto

This is officially my favorite post in the Keto thread!

A lot of people, when they start doing this, feel the need to constantly absolve themselves after eating “unhealthy” food, ie., anything with fat in it. Forgive me Dr Ornish for I have sinned. Then they start getting slimmer and healthier, and the guilt evaporates.

At this late stage in the game, if you still meet people who think fat is unhealthy, better to leave the room.

Brings back a lot of fond memories reading about folks discovering the keto/banting/HFLC/paleo diet. Those were good times and I was a young man then.

I don’t think eating buckets of fried chicken is healthy.
There I said it.

The seed oil and batter are unhealthy. If you fry your chicken in butter or olive oil with not batter you’re good to go. I believe

As Kavalan said, there are reasons why the KFC variant is not ideal - but OTOH it’s not super bad for you. A bit of 炸雞排 and BBQed vegetables from the nightmarket was a regular go-to meal when I was doing a keto phase. Every so often I have beer with a 雞排, but this isn’t an everyday occurrence; doing that every night would not count as “keto”!

You do have to choose carefully: some are mostly batter and a hammered-out-flat piece of chicken; there are others which have a fairly thin batter and lots of chicken.

Why do you think fried chicken is unhealthy? “Because it has fat in it” is not a valid answer

Sadly I gave up the fight years ago. I did well for years, I was living the lifestyle before anyone even knew about it.

But I gave in to temptation. I’m a weak man. The pizzas fries hamburgers pastries beers whiskies etc eventually won the war.

Please don’t let my failures as a man distract you from your goals

So yummy.

Uh-oh.

Try the Fathead pizza crust!!! It is seriously good and easy to make. The “almond flour” is really just ground almonds, so buy some and use a coffee grinder and you are good to go.

Started 9/1
Weight: 87.2 kilos (started at 90 kilos)
Body fat: 26.5% (started at 27%)

Don’t mean to bore everyone, but posting my results is helping with my motivation. Over a month now. I’m still working on this.

No boredom inflicted :grinning:. I am still going with this as well. I am trying to do it a fair bit stricter, with no cheats - I am about 7 days in, and I intend to push it for at least 2 or 3 weeks. Thanks to @tango42 for the tough love observations (on my lack of keto “keto”, they were appreciated).

I’m shooting for 70 kg down from 90kg. Somehow things have gotten away from me this year. I’m doing the starvation diet.

You say starvation but do you mean intermittent fasting? That’s what I’m doing and it is really working for me. I eat one meal a day. I eat less carbs and more fat but not keto. I’ll occasionally eat a piece of fruit. I did a 3 day water fast a few weeks ago and seems to have improved some issues with my skin, aches and pains, and digestive system. Now, if I can break my craft beer addiction…I lost 5 kg last month.

You got to cut out the beer . It will be revelatory. Try sparkling water for a month. :grinning:
5Kg in a month is a lot. I’ve cut over 6Kg in three months through exercise , cutting down the beer to a couple a week and reducing carbs. I am in the best shape I’ve been in in at least 17 years . I do some running and weights. Still got a bit of a belly , that’s a medium term project it seems.

True, cutting out the beer makes a huge difference. I lose 30 lbs each year during whisky season, but gain it all back in beer season.

I’m Kavalan and I approve this message

Oh man, about maybe seven years ago my local bottle shop (in the States) started selling the Suntory Yamazaki 12 single malt. I don’t know if they screwed up the pricing or if it was just a mistake, but for two or three months I was able to buy 70cl for like US$38. It is a fantastic whisky imo, and that price is ridic.

Three bottles later, somebody somewhere made a change and the price more than doubled, and of course stayed there. But for a few months I was in heaven.

Good times :tumbler_glass:

For sure, and there are far far worse ways to stay in or around ketosis. :yum:
