A place like DENNY'S in Taipei :)

Hi,

I really like Denny’s in USA; where is the closest place to Denny’s I can find with thick pancake, waffle, and french toast? OH! And crispy bacon! Most bacon in TW seems to be…squishy… a bit creepy  ty!

Isn’t there a Denny’s in one of the department stores near Warner Village? I’m sure I went there on Halloween.

Perhaps The Diner.

Swenson’s, on the Ren’ai Dunhua traffic circle. They have Denny’s-like breakfasts.

Royal Host has always reminded me of Denny’s, in a bad way.

when things reminds me of Denny’s it’s usually in a bad way…

The first step is admitting that you have a problem. What, exactly, do you like about Denny’s?

Their hot coco was always OK, but it inevitably had a big accumulation of semi-solid chocolate at the bottom of the cup that hadn’t been mixed well.

Grandma Nitti’s is Denny’s-like.

maybe Denny’s extra-horrible in SoCal or something… that’s why we have such negative reactions to it :stuck_out_tongue:

I like to believe that people in other parts of the country just have lower standards.

It really depends on the Denny’s location. There was one near my mother’s place that was horrible. There was one near where I lived that had the best omelets I’ve ever run across in a restaurant.

The same holds true for any other restaurant. I’ve heard people put down Waffle House for years, but I’ve only seen one location that was bad, and it was so bad that I walked out without ordering – all the tables were full of unbussed dirty dishes, flies crawling all over everything, and the staff was just standing around staring into space.

that’s what I was suspecting, also perhaps the time of the day I visit Denny’s also have an impact on how skilled the chefs are.

Yea, I was going to say Grandma’s as this was the place I went when I first moved to Taiwan for the most familiar breakfast. The Diner is similar in that it is a chain and has breakfast anytime they are open. New York Bagel is not so similar in food, but similar as open 24 hours like Denny’s and you’ll occasionally bump into drunk people or bar girls in their club clothes (mini-skirts and sparkly tops) even at 7am.

I used to take business clients to Denny’s that i didn’t really think much of. (prep at the end of a sentence, ya I know). Actually, Denny’s aint really bad. It’s problem is that it aint really good.
Anybody recall the days when Denny’s was called “Lil Black Sambos” Actually, the food was a hell of alot better and I enjoyed hanging out with real folks.
On the side, I miss it.

I need a branch of Popeye’s
etoufe, non-greasy chicken and the damnest finest Cajun women in that hemisphere.

I don’t think that ever happened. Denny’s was founded as Danny’s. All they changed was one letter.

Aunt Stella at Taipei Main Station… but only for the waffles… the rest of the menu is a crapshoot, but 2 free (stale?) crisp cookies is a treat.

There was a Sambo’s (without the “Little Black” part).

Interestingly, Little Black Sambo is a story about a boy from India.

There is a place next to the department store with the movie theater and chilies in Tianmu.

Its on the second floor and easy to spot, spacious, not hidden or anything.

I cant quite remember the name I think it was something diner but not to be confused with The Diner which is another completely different restaurant.

They had stuff like mac and cheese, french toast, and other hard to find western style dishes. The pastrami Ruben and grilled cheese was nice.

Hope this helps

Good place. You’ll probably want to make reservations on weekends.

I’m not sure how much it resembles Denny’s, but I’m one of those who wonders how anyone could conceivably seek out a Denny’s. Maybe they’re better in other places than they are in Vancouver.
