A real Christmas tree

Ah, my 18th Christmas in Taiwan, and the plastic special is already up. Just this year, I’d like to have the real thing…Anybody know where to find one? I remember B&Q having the real deal last year, but no go this season.

I’m down in Yangmei, but am willing to commute a fair distance to fill my living room with a living tree.

Any ideas?

Hi,

This weekend I went to the Weekend Flower Market at Jianguo South Road, close to Daan Park, at Taipei city, and they are selling a couple of Christmas trees, though not the big ones. Hope it helps!

Buck the trend. Get yourself a nice Christmas mulberry bush. The pesky Dane has one in his yard, I think. All you’d need would be a dark night and a hand saw.

Try the Jianguo flower market (near DaAn park) - we got our Christmas tree there last year … and it’s still alive for this year :sunglasses:

I didn’t check for Christmas trees on the flower market. But I checked for Advent wreaths. And one stall actually had them - for 2000nt!!! :frowning: That was a bit too much for me for a bunch of spruce without any decoration. Any idea where I could get something similar, slightly less expensive and NOT made from plastic?

Thanks
Iris

I’d love to have one of these. Was it expensive?

Got a 9’ tree from Oregon from an importer at the Neihu Flower Market. 5,000 TWD

Nice tree too.

2000NTD for a 6 foot tall tree

The only time Sandmn went to my house it was dark, and the mulberry tree has no leaves and was 2 feet high.

It’s 8 feet high, still has no leaves, and you will have to drag it over a high wall in order to get it out.

Access is thru my living room, by the way. The main door is usually locked, so better bring some equipment for dealing with that.

also, i heard that a certain moderator has a big papaya in his yard. Much more accessible, and it will look refreshingly different with a few christmas hearts and the like on it.

I miss my papaya tree. :frowning: One of those pesky Taiphoons killed it.

It acutally produced some have decent fruit

Merry Christmas! Kill a tree!

Most real xmas trees are grown for that very purpose.

My mulberry is NOT!

Yes, I know. A horrible fate. I hear that in some parts of the country they frighten the trees into stampeding over a ledge where they all perish. Tree rights activists have been clamoring for this practice to stop for years, but to no avail.
If you have to buy a once-live tree, make sure you look for the kill seal that shows that the tree has been either electrocuted or shot in the back of the trunk – both relatively humane ways to lose your pine needles.

hi all,

resurrecting an old thread since i couldn’t find any new info on the site. my family and i just moved to taipei a few days ago, and i’m on the hunt for a real christmas tree. does anyone know if the jianguo flower market still sells them?

thanks,
ml

It will be hard. We are working on it as well, and I will post details, once I know more.

No import of US trees this year, as they have a bug issue.

This year, go local: use binlang palms. the less of them still in the ground, the better.

each half-way decent palm gives you one Christmas tree, and one very tall light pole. Think of the savings!

What I have heard is that this year, a total of 40-50 trees will be imported, and that they are almost sold out.

Step 1. Find a good beer that comes in a green can.
Step 2. Invite your buddies over to drink the beer.
Step 3.Assemble.

I saw a rather cleverly constructed balloon Christmas tree the other day. I’m going to go that route. Wrap it around a pole and string of lights. Long way from a real tree, but better than nuttin’.
