That seems to be exactly the kind of thinking they are against. They are tired of seeing their viewpoints ignored because of it.
They better get used to it then.
Too few will take interest in such a diluted platform.
Oh theyâre used to it alright. Thatâs the whole point. There wouldnât be any point to just duplicating what a major party is doing.
I did my masters thesis on a 3rd Party topicâHenry Wallaceâs Progressive Party in 1948 to be exact.
The amateur historian/cynic in me says it wonât ever happen effectively. The Anti-Masonic, Free Soilers, Know Nothings, Bull Moose, Progressive, AIP, Greens, Reform, Libertarian, etc.
None were/are long term realistic or came/come anywhere close to challenging the two party system (although once in a blue moon can play the spoiler or merge into other parties and slightly change the dynamic).
Ba-ba-boooey
We shall see.
Seems to me that the Squad leaving the Dems and joining the PP would immediately cut them off from the big money and any committee of value or status. Iâd like to see it though, as it mightâŚjust might result in the second wave of Squaders who might not be so antagonistic to independents who arenât willing to call everything racist or reductively whatnot.
IOTW theyâd stay a minor party?
This is roughly the position of the NDP on the left in Canada for the last 70 years. Itâs held from 13%-20% of the vote, with one spike up to 30% in 2011, before back to the high 'teens. In the American system the difference between Bernie and AOC on the left wing of the Dems is that you have more power in an existing wing of one of the two parties.
Even with the much bigger split in the GOP there isnât much talk of a seperation.
The Republicans, some of whom helped negotiate the plan for roads and bridges and some who did not, voted to advance it in the Senate hours after Trump called them âfoolishâ and âdumbâ for doing so.
âHe lost Arizona, he lost Georgia, he ignored Election Fraud and he doesnât fight. Now heâs giving Democrats everything they want and getting nothing in return. No deal is better than a bad deal,â Trump wrote.
âFight for America, not for special interests and Radical Democrats. RINOs are ruining America, right alongside Communist Democrats.â
Thursday morning, Trump issued another angry statement from his âSave Americaâ PAC.
âUnder the weak leadership of Mitch McConnell, Senate Republicans continue to lose,â he said.
Trump blasted Senate Republicans on Wednesday evening as âweak, foolish, and dumbâ for agreeing an infrastructure deal with Democrats, potentially delivering a huge policy win for President Joe Biden.
Trump was a Clinton voting Democrat in the early 2000s and a supporter of gay rights in the 1980s when many liberals were not openly supportive.
Although much preferring Trump to the Clintons, I think the Republicans win when they are open tent, including RINOs and Neo-cons. You need the Scranton and William Weld wings of the party. While I prefer the old AuH20 wing myself, winning is not about your own ideologiesâit is persuasion and team building.
It is why the NDP never won federally. Provincially they have done ok in the past with Blakeney and Romanow being better stewards of the economy than many Tories. Federally I donât think some of the players could run a peanut stand with the exception of blue collar Ed Broadbent.
I think the chance of that is probably less than zero
The odds favor it Whether they go totally radical or not really. But there would really be no point to trying to swim in the mainstream.
The point now is having an outlet for oneâs voice that is not adequately delivered by either of the major parties. I can get down with that at the moment (not necessarily with these chaps, though they seem to have some good points.)
What would be a question there perhaps is if the Libertarians will pick up any steam.
Why should they? Theyâre rich now and a couple of elections away from a lifetime pension on the backs of the people they claim to rep. Jimmy spoke to that point.
For example, a non-establishment socialist just won in a Dem primary in Buffalo, NY, and last I heard the establishment incumbent was all out to run against her, primary loss or not. Now thereâs this in NYC
Thatâs not necessarily insignificant, it could potentially swing the election to the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa of Guardian Angels fame.
Exactly, thereâs no way theyâre going to do that.
Thereâs always the John Wilkes Booth solution.
LOL. She might get 2% of the vote, but probably less.
Hard to say these days. You might have also said a socialist in Buffalo would only get 2%.
The outgoing Brooklyn borough president later met with the New York congressional delegation, including AOC. He said afterward that he was running against DSA âphilosophies,â not Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, the most prominent DSA-backed elected official in New York. He noted that he did not mention AOC in his fundraiser speech.
âŚ
Rojas appears to be running independently of the NYC-Democratic Socialists of America chapter, the group Adams has targeted as an obstacle to his law-and-order agenda. The DSA has not endorsed a candidate in the mayorâs race.
IOTW, much ado about nothing.
Thatâs hard to say. Just because itâs not going to create a major split in the Democratic party doesnât mean its nothing. Thereâs a lot more ways for people to gain traction now and people willing to do it. Is it probable? Not really, but I see the trend developing. And itâs not like Republicans have not won in NY.
And the Bills are goingâŚto Texas!
That will be really sad if it happens.
I am ambivalent. The best part of western NY ends after Letchworth SP.
I have some family over there, it would be rough. Letchworth is amazing.
Check our New York State Waterfalls on FB. Most of the good ones are east of Ithaca. Gorge country. Crazy now after weeks of rain. Weâve hit several this summer.
