A Week of Weird TV News

I’m sitting here watching the Taiwanese news and here’s the woman who was driving drunk, hit someone, and the accident killed her kid. Then, her ganster hubby has his goons drag the innocent guy in the other car from the accident out of the hospital to the funeral parlor and beat him to death.

Now this woman is falling down on TV crying about her baby. Is there something about cause and effect this woman does not understand? :loco:

And then, on another channel, there’s the crying mother of the grade school kid. Her son was called “stupid idiot” by his teacher. The mother is beside herself in tears. The teacher denies everything. The next day the cameras are back talking to the kids classmate’s shoes. They all say the kid was rude and yelled at the teacher. The mother is still beside herself?

Do I smell a lawsuit?? WTF! :loco:

Is it me, or has there been some really bizarre news, more than normal, this week? Is there a full moon?

Jdsmith, I don’t think the news this week is any more weird. I watch local news every single day, the TV is always on, and they’re weird news. All the time. The news reporting adds spice and flava to news to make them sound extra sensational, too.

Last year, a news reporter interviewed a dog that liked to come into this local convenience store to enjoy the a/c.

The reporter asked the dog, “Why do you feel it necessary to come into this store everyday? Do you think your actions have a terrifying effect on the patrons of said establishment?”

The dog answered, “@!#$%^*.” Those are the exact words of the dog the news station scribbled in cartoon bubble style. I think it loosely translates into: “Because it’s too hot outside, you moron. Don’t you like coming into a Family Mart that has strong a/c?” These are the gifted news stations and reporters Taiwan has produced.

Did you hear about the monkey that was finally captured today after living in this complex for two whole months?

Or the girl whose body was finally found this week on the exact same day her grandfather was buried? She was murdered by her own cousin.

Jesus! I’m glad I don’t watch that much TV!

I once was on a short trip in Japan and the news of the day was there was a pet pengiun in a small town that was trained to bring money to a local fish dealer and bring back fish in a special backpack to the owner.

Entertainment is a big part of the news in Asia.

That’s not weird, that’s awesome!!!

That penguin made it also into the news here. Very cute and finally something more interesting than the usual neighbour quarrels, fire next door or children beating teachers.

Gosh, why can’t their be more international news on TV? I kind of feel like in Mainland! People are kept stupid so that nobody here really realizes that the whole world ignores Taiwan and is against its independence :noway:
Good job Ah-Bian :help:

The above news stories are weird, but they don’t compare to current news in the US: bald military-vet gay prostitute who posts nude photos of himself, offering his services on websites he owns at www.militaryescorts.com, who purchased his degree in journalism from a diploma mill for $50 and whose only “journalistic” experience is writing for a small, right-wing propaganda website is given press-credentials by the White House so he can waltz around the White House under a false name and toss false and derogatory statements about democrats to the president, pretending they are legitimate questions asked by a real news reporter. :loco:

Actually you got that story wrong…The man was at fault.

Actually if teach your dog to smoke, go to 7-11 on a daily basis to buy smokes for your dog, and claim your dog was a happy ass camper.

We could get you on TV news in Taiwan.

I once made a long distance call home to my parents in Victoria. They asked if I could see a news crew. “Why?” I enquired. “Because you are on TV!” came the suprising reply.

If you are referring to this from the article you linked:

and this
The accident occurred early in the morning of February 11 on the highway connecting the cities of Hualien and Taidong. The 36-year-old man surnamed Sung was driving a rented Toyota southbound when an apparent attempt to overtake ended in disaster, according to a policeman investigating the accident.

The officer told the Taiwan News that as the Toyota accelerated to pass another car and moved into the northbound lane, it spotted a black Mercedes coming from the other direction and tried to stop.

The
Toyota
left brake marks about 50 meters long
,” the policeman said, adding that they straddled the roadway’s dividing line.
I don’t see how you can lay blame soley on the man in the Toyota. Now, how interesting that on the TV news, they say that the woman was driving the mercedes, and that she was drunk. And it is curious that the newspaper you refer to says nothing about the mercedes’ skid marks. Maybe it could be because they don’t want to get beaten to death?

Specualtion aside, the man driving the toyota was not completely responsible for this.

The woman was also unlicensed and did not bother to provide any restraint for the child. So I don’t blame the other driver completely. Did she swerve onto the shoulder? Did she take any evasive action? How fast was she going? I’ve noticed an uncanny trend with female Taiwanese scooter riders who freeze up and cannot or will not turn even as they plow right into a perfectly avoidable object, whereas the guys swerve all over the place to avoid a manhole cover.

And even if I did blame the driver of the other car, hiring thugs to beat him to death in front of his mother at the morgue surely isn’t the answer.

My favorite quirky story today is the guy vidotaped having an ‘argument’ with an ATM machine. He ends up tossing a brick at the machine, which then bounces off and hits him in the head. Hilarious. :bravo:

I just got through watching a story about some women fired from an American zoo for refusing to bare their breasts to some gorillas. I think.

Even better, it’s one of those sign-language apes, so maybe it can be called to testify at the trial. (Making “big melons” gestures.)

Look, every day TVBS has at least one story about an animal, and at least one that has naked women in it. But don’t hold your breath waiting for anybody to report on (non-catastrophic) economic news, Indonesian politics, anything like that, unless it comes up in passing during an interview with a fluffy dog.
