And how many are dead from jumping out of their building?

More slop from Taiwan News.

Gee Marco,

You must be fun at parties.

Absolutely, because I don’t work for companies with labour conditions so bad that people are literally trying to kill themselves. So I don’t need to go to their weiyas that offer a small chance to win money when they could just be paying their employees.

And don’t pretend weiyas are actually fun lmao.

I think that was debunked long ago, the suicide rates of Foxconn employees was actually less, perhaps significantly less, than the rate for the Chinese population in general, meaning working there made you less likely to commit suicide.

Would never, hate them with a passion.

According to my (Taiwanese) wife, companies like this announce their big weiya prizes and bonuses to give the company “face” and boost their stock price (seems to have worked, Foxxconn is up 4% this week).

Employees would much rather have higher base wages.

Some EVA Air employees got a nine month bonus. I didn’t hear much complaining.

Au contraire mon frère!

I love my wife’s American company’s 尾牙. Always a huge party with awesome shows to include dancing girls, magicians, beer drinking contests, karaoke contests, talent shows, lots of food, good music, endless open bar, etc.

Super fun. They always give out really good prizes. This year I won $3,000 NTD for singing 伍佰 & China Blue 台灣製造. And yes, I did it in Minan.

One year my wife actually won the grand prize of $500K NTD. Shit you not.

I always look forward to the 尾牙.

I guess it really depends on who you work for as to whether or not it’s any fun.

Same for me. I really enjoy my company’s 尾牙.

I basically just bring a bottle of whisky with me, ignore what’s going on onstage(unless it’s the lottery or an artist I like), walk around, share my whisky with colleagues and in return receive a glass of whatever booze my colleagues bring with them: one of my Japanese colleagues always brings back great stuff from Japan.

It’s also one of the few times a year where I can see my manager get drunk.

I see this more in Ireland than here! But more staff there.

Funny thing about this time of year is how many drunk people you see out and about on the town…. reminds me of just about every night (but more so on weekends) when I lived in Korea, haha…. This is the time of year of seeing people passed out in gutters, fresh piles of vomit on the sidewalk and drunken brawls breaking out, which again, I used to witness on a nearly daily basis when I lived in Seoul.
