Actual nice beaches

anyone know where you can get a GOOD swim and some GOOD sand in Northern Taiwan? Within an Easy train ride from Yingge? I’m jonesing for the beach (regularly) and have found some beaches disappointing, whether it be for the beach itself, or the fact that I couldn’t swim once I got there (dangerous undertow, drop off…etc.)

Thanks

Baisawan

Baishawan. (No offense, just going for accuracy for the sake of the OP) 白沙灣 (White Sand Bay). Train ride to Taipei Station, MRT to Danshui, bus to Baishawan.

Isn’t that the same place Canada Day was held?

And welcome to Forumosa, that great Taiwanese undertow.

Sure, there’s a bunch of Canadians in the first photo. Good point.

Fulong may be a good bet as well, even though the transport time might be longer.

The beach is clean, and you can rent lots of stuff.

From yingge you can go by train and by scooter, if you are adventurous.

Good beaches in Taiwan? Never heared of … Philippines … that’s the way to go … Boracay … yeah

you really need to get out of the kitchen - baishawan is a great beach for a day trip.

bumping

I’ve been there sveral times … for me … not worth the trip … as for swimming and watersports … it’s a dangerous bay … I’ve seen with my own eyes a turned-over hobycat being pulled out to open sea by the currents …

No doubt. I’ll bet all of Taiwan will be on Boracay this Chinese New Year… :unamused:

Well crap.
That’s where I was planning on going.
And I thought I was the only one.

I’d agree that since you are coming from Yingge just stay on the train and go to Fulong. Why bother with three transfer?

What about Jinshan? Anyone have anything to say about the beaches there? I’ve only seen them in winter and they looked quite nice. Take a train to Keelung and then a bus.

If you want something more private the beach across from the 2nd nuclear power plant is always empty. Quite a nice little sandy bay really.

You wont be the only one.
Last year it was half Taiwan-English-Teachers and half Koreans.

And I was luckily hanging on the other one …

For that ‘special’ sun tan?

Did go to Jinshan a few weekends ago

  • free parking
  • free beach
  • cleanish sand
  • some waves
  • resonable level of crowding
  • hundreds of wannabe surfers on longboards crashing into each other
  • umbrellas flying dangerously down the beach
  • shaved ice that gave my daughters the squitty-bums
    6/10

Oops … I did that? Man sorry … I’m so full of myself … :smiling_imp:
