Advice for an aspiring freelance editor

That tells me one thing: they do not care enough about their career to have it done properly. It is little more than a hobby for them.

If the degrees are biomedicalish, might be enough to get your foot in the door at some medcom agencies. That was essentially my career path, and I have just a BS and some grad school experience. A PhD would have increased options, of course, and I moved back to the US before moving to a medcom agency.

I’m not a native Chinese speaker 可是我可以講的明明白白的🤣

totally understand. just putting out different thoughts and people can think and choose their direction. on the opposite side of scale, a food producer might also be a nursery, be a fertilizer company, be a consultant for anything biological. the idea I am suggesting isnt so much specific in the sense of what to do, moreso the suggestion is to not limit yourself from the get go so that when a new opportunity arises you can actually take it. So many people that are good at what they do and do it freelance styled get offered a great gig, but because they dont have a tax number, or cant provide a receipt or whatever official reasoning they miss out on the opportunity. that’s more what I am saying. everyone can market them self as broad or specific as they want. in my opinion, a person should be at least fairly ready (legally) to take a great job when.it comes up and not have to keep saying “sorry, pass” due to lack.of paperwork. certain industries only have so many opportunities. it isnt great being the “he cant do it” guy to that industry.

for example. I am not particularly good or special at my job. but I am not corrupt, shady or etc. I do everything legal. 7 times out of 10 I beat out my competition simply because I am above board and can them them proper documents. 3 out 10 times we compete on competence. Also price, but that’s not so relevant to the point being made

Ask them, I think it is retarded too. 60% of the time.

plus, you arent understanding the difference. School isnt easy, to do it well. but it is nearly impossible to fail here. Maybe if they had a touch more logic and management skills your 16 hour proposal would be cut in half;) something I truly wish they would starting.in kindergarten and every day going.forward. not just post grad paid classes to teach people basic common sense. this is the failure of the educational system. truly. The factory sheep type education is coming full circle now as people are getting lazy and entitled and expect higher standards for work they have not contributed. this is simply karma. ona generational and national scale.

I’m just saying that while the standards aren’t that high I find it very hard to believe that someone can just have a phD and an actual academic career in Taiwan without the ability to write papers well. Sure their English works is probably going to be incoherent but that’s because none of them are English speakers.

Given how serious Taiwan seems to take Chinese culture I find it hard to believe that someone can just BS their way into a phD program if they are not even academically competent.

Well, I respectfully disagree. there are a tonne of leaches in Taiwan. not all, but a solid percentage. that aside, we weren’t talking about PhD so much as grade school. that was my original comment, nearly impossible to fail. which is an embarrassment.

Spend a couple decades working in universities and you might see it differently. A master bullshitter with a little guanxi can do well

That’s kind of scary on both counts.

That is one thing that is concerning me. I know companies take their expenses seriously for tax purposes. I used Zoho invoicing a long time ago for online stuff. I don’t know if that’s worth anything here. Someone has mentioned handwriting receipts.

I tried to find a good domain name, but I got @GooseEgg

Hmmm - a bunch of these links seem to be deadends! I struck out those that didn’t seem to work for me, but left the row in case your own research leads you somewhere

So can the editors, why pay a writer?

I was thinking more along the lines of, "since we live in a world where AI can do the bulk of the writing, how can I submit content that would pay me? Maybe by leveraging my real world actual experiences:

Make it specific, personable , personal, humourous.
