I’ll soon be traveling to the island and I was wondering if anyone can tell me which hotel chains are known to be (un)reliable as far as security, cleanliness and English speaking personal are concerned?
I’ll only be staying a few days on this (exploratory) trip. But despite me wanting to save money I don’t want to spend those days stuck in a roach motel.
Not sure what is your budget? YMCA is clean and mid prices €80,00 or so dependent on days and room size. Clean rooms, clean water (bottled) and central location
Don’t stay near the main train station in Taipei. It’s moribund and boring. This place is a good value for Taipei: Howard Civil Service International House. It’s a hotel despite name.
Drive-by shootings and drug-related violence are rare in the Xinyi district in Taipei. There are also a few midpriced hotels that offer safe and good quality accommodation. Try the LeMeridien or Grand Hyatt.
Not sure what your budget is and where you want to stay but here are a few of recommendations:
Hotel staff’s English speaking capability varies.
It is the weak Forumosan attempt at pulling your chain. You will probably be surprised at how generally safe and secure Taipei is compared to most places.
Sorry to disagree. I just stayed a week at a budget hotel and it was clean beyond my expectations. No saying that makes me a TW hotel expert, but that particular experience was above and beyond what I would get for that price in either Germany, the UK or the US.
I was astonished - if not outright blown away - how clean, friendly and yes, also safe & secure at least Taipei and the surroundings are.
I never expected it to be such a … functional society. Maybe I went there a bit prejudiced. In any case, its definitely one of the better places I’ve been to lately.
