Affordable HPV & Flu Vaccines in Taipei?

I had too much fun last week, and now I have a sore throat & muscles. I went to an ENT clinic and told the doctor about what I did last week, and after checking, the doctor told me that I have tonsillitis, but he also wants me to get the HPV vaccine just to be safe, and also the Influenza vaccines, since it seems like Influenza A is on the rise recently.

Based on the reviews I’ve seen online, the price can range from 1.7k NTD to 7k. I’ve reached out to the poster who got their HPV vaccine only 1.7K, but they haven’t responded (their clinic was in Daan).

I’d really appreciate it if you could share any recommendations for clinics that have more reasonable prices for these vaccines. I’m located in Taipei, but I’m open to traveling a bit for a good deal.

Thanks for your help!

Bumping this thread.

I still haven’t found a place. Thank you.

For the flu shot only, I paid $1,800 at Taipei City hospital this month.

I’m under age 50. Cash self-pay. They don’t give it for free to young people (below 50) yet. First you need an appointment with primary care/internal medicine doctor, who will then write a “prescription” for the flu shot.

I like to know about flu shots because they’re only offering it to senior citizens. Last year they had none available for non seniors because of big S.

1800 NTD for one shot? I heard you need at least 3 shots for full protection.

That’s steep. I think it’s free for senior citizens, I had no idea it was 1800.

I remember in the states they’d give out flu shots for any doctor’s visit, free. You could even just turn up at any Walgreens or cvs for it.

One shot.

The brand was Flucelvax and instructions are only one dose.

Yes. I was shocked at Taiwan’s prices. I wouldn’t call it affordable…

I think it’s because the Taiwan government did not purchase a lot of flu (nor covid) vaccines this year. Single digit million shots only.

In the US, I’ve gotten it free from CVS/Walgreens with no insurance. At most I’ve paid co-pay of US$25 (classic American healthcare, it’s more expensive if you have insurance).

Why would they do that?

Do they not care about people catching flu?

This year, the government continues to allocate resources to provide approximately 6.48 million doses of publicly funded trivalent influenza vaccines and about 2.99 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to ensure sufficient protection for the public.

So that appears to be the answer. If you’re senior citizen it’s free, if not, pay for it. Or go back to the states and do it there.

You can get a flu shot in many local clinics, call 1999 and they’ll let you know your nearest one. The shot may be 1000 or 1500 depending on which brand/type the clinic have, all are single shot.if you haven’t been to that clinic before you may have to pay a registration fee, generally a couple of hundred NT. I avoid hospitals as you usually have to go to the family medicine department then go get the shot, loclal clinic is typically waaaaay faster. If you’re under 50 it doesn’t matter if you have NHI or not, same cost and procedure. Over 65’s with NHI are free at the moment, over 50’s with NHI free from November 1st, although you may have to pay a small registration fee at a clinic if it’s your first visit. Kids generally can get their shots in school with parental consent, no charge.

Completely incorrect, shots are available to anyone and were also available to anyone last year.

Over 2 million shots given already in October, there’s no shortage.

There’s already a thread on flu shots.

If they open the flu shots to all ages immediately, they would probably run out.

Considering they consumed 2 million (30%) of 6.5 million shots in 19 days on just age 65 or above (assuming people willing to pay $1,500+ is small), they most definitely would run out if the entire population was eligible for free on Oct 1.

That’s why for covid vaccines (only 3 million available), even if you are willing to pay, they will not give it to you unless you qualify under age 65+ or medical necessity.

Flu vaccines are available for all ages now, my kids have had theirs “free”, both my wife and I have paid for ours. A great many people are willing to pay for them. 2 million shots covers all the school kids, over 65’s and others who received them for “free” due to their occupation or health condition, and also those who chose to pay.

The number of shots purchased is based on the predicted requirements, most years there’s over supply and they end up giving the vaccine for free to anyone who wants it towards the end of the flu season.

Where did you find this information? I’m not aware of any restrictions on self pay for Covid 19 vaccines.

Found out in-person both at public hospital and private clinic after I tried to self-pay for the covid shot. They said maybe later, depends on CDC (probably December).

Before they were giving covid vaccines away to anyone during a time when it was destroying the economy. Now that covid is more of less endemic, unless you were at a particular risk of complications, most just wouldn’t bother. Last year damn near no one wanted any.

Getting flu shots at the end of flu season is pointless anyways. You will have acquired immunity by then.

Odd, they possibly thought you were asking for a free vaccination.

According to the CDC you can self pay at one of the below institutes

Over 2 million people were vaccinated against COVID 19 in the first 5 months of this year alone.

I have never heard of this “three shot” thing.

Are you thinking of the trivalent flu shots offered in previous years? That was a three-in-one, and not three shots!

Guy

There’s also no such thing as “full protection”.

I was responding to something specific in this thread.

Who are you responding to? Yourself?

@spicycrispychicken

I thought that was obvious.
