✈ Airlines | Etihad

A second airline in the so-called Middle East Three (i.e. the ME3)—in this case, Etihad—has launched nonstop daily service connecting Taipei to Abu Dhabi, a major hub in the Middle East.

Etihad also apparently has some kind of codeshare arrangement with Starlux, as both airlines currently are not part of the large airline consortiums (i.e. they are, at least for now, not part of Star Alliance, One World, or Skyteam).

I wonder if any forumosans plan on giving this new route a try?

I do hope it will put some (downwards) pressure on flights to Europe.

It feels like flights between Taiwan and Europe are often significantly more expensive than between Japan or Thailand and the same destination in Europe…

I am willing to give it a try as they have at times some good biz fares to Europe (Milan in my case), and would like to try their stop-over offer so can do the token visit to Abu Dhabi and call it a day.

Also, PS, it seems that the codeshare agreement it’s not yet in force. It should be soon though.

I tried before it was ok. Now i found via CA Hong Kong to MXP £309 return, not bad for about 380quid with the add on flight from KIA to Hong Kong. Wonder with CA (China) can use the ITA lounges now?

Thank you for the correction! One reason I like posting on forumosa is having some really knowledgeable people around. :salute:

I literally just tried to search for TPEMXP via AUH flight on EY first and it shows ofc, but no JX frequent flyer option (it has with AC though), whilst no solution at all on JX website as it was suggested on the JX official press release about the codeshare.

I wonder if it would be worth your time writing to Starlux to ask them what is going on—and when they expect this to be fixed?

Oh! I checked and the ITA lounge is at Linate. Seems ITA does not fly out of Malepnsa at all. (I like Linate but fewer flights choices but hope ITA can add there)

haha, China Air. I never transfer at Beijing as it’s always the destination but i thought it was better of the Chinese Airlines. Is you hate all of them or only CA?

AZ made the foolish and completely political choice to leave MXP and have the only hub at FCO with a focus city at LIN for domestic and European flights. For the longest time they still kept feeder flights to FCO from MXP, but they killed them a few years ago, and they also killed the cash-cows flights MXPJFK and MXPNRT, leaving the north of Italy without any direct link to JP (now at least there is the NH HNDMXP).

Not giving money to the ppl who want to invade my home, unless forced to since only choice (like my trip to Chengdu last year, there was really only a TSATFU flight with 3U, Sichuan Airlines.) If really forced, would go with 3U again (was not that bad, and unlimited Laoganma sauce on the food).

don’t think it’s actually an issue, I guess the agreement is really not yet in force and implemented.

You can just buy that stuff at 7-11 you know. Bring it with you onto the plane—providing it is not seized at the security check point!

When I’m on CX, I always request a packet of Lee Kum Kee Guilin chili sauce. It takes the dim sum served on board to the next level. :rocket:

I prefer being served by the cute attendants they have aboard.

You know what they say: Sichuan girls are the hottest! (HAHA)

I admit it’s not impossible I would surrender state secrets if I were plied with enough Lao Gan Ma sauce.

I suppose it’s best to admit our weak points in an effort to improve them!

New York- Milano has lots of flights still even a A380, to Japan less but for me needing transfer at HND or other station (BKK/SIN ect) is the same.

For me Malpensa most of the least desired choice of the area airports (based on business location Bergamo Airport is best, LIN next then MXP).

“political choice to leave MXP”
is it LIN is the prefered political choice or someting else?

MXP used to be for a brief period of time the actual hub of AZ.

But then all politician down in Rome were complaining that they don’t have their stupid Pescara-Rome or Naples-Rome flight (since by law they fly for free on domestic flights operated by domestic carriers, grifters) and so AZ, which was government owned, went back to FCO as main hub leaving MXP as secondary hub with a few intercontinental destinations.

EK fifth freedom flight MXPJFK is a cash-cow, only operator still flying the jumbo to MXP.

ofc if you are more based in the eastern part, LIN or BGY makes more sense, my home is in Piemonte, a bare 45 mins from MXP. LIN very convenient if I am staying in Milan (at what now is my sister’s house), 15 mins without traffic from LIN. Hate the guts of BGY, but really so inconvenient for me anyways.

just received the above in my inbox and went to check the fares. Unfortunately only the flights to BRU and PRG in Europe are covered by the codeshare, but more worrying is this:

basically no fare is eligible to accrue mileage nor the flights are eligible for mileage redemption.

the non-codeshare option through EY is cheaper, especially for direct business booking. But, still JX Cosmile cannot be chosen as frequent flyer…

Not the best arrangement, I hope they will make it better in the future (if this will survive any OW entry of JX)

Yes, east so Bergamo is good. I will use malpensa next month, will be interesting to see EES changes anything.

And yes, seems EK in only A380 flight into Malpensa (and maybe into Taipei on one of the flights, the other flights seem 777’s).

And the codeshare with Starlux, seems better they would with Oman or Qatar as its the group they want to join? Ethihad is good, but still other in region are better like Oman and Qatar. (Etihad’s investments/partners did bad things to the airline, hope JX is better than their past partners)

Yea, and no reason for his detention was given, and honestly they don’t even have to give any.

Remember “rule of law” in those parts of the world is nowhere near the same as say the UK, the US, or even Taiwan.

Could have been flagged on some accidental social media thing, or even someone was tortured by their authority gave bad intel (because UAE do in fact use torture).
