🛬 🛫 Airport | Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)

well, if you are so close to the MRT line, best is to take the MRT. I am aware of the express bus from Songshan Airport to TPE, but that would make your trip longer:

I used to take that a few times when lading too late at TPE back in the day where budget was tighter, so MRT already closed. Now I just take a taxi, 1.4k and straight to my house/to the airport. I save time and fatigue, especially with big luggage.

Yes, for a long trip that makes sense. The MRT airport line is ok, plenty of room for luggage, but a lot more inconvenient, and a long walk to A1 from the main station, but it runs pretty early and late.

But more than that I will really miss the Evergreen bus. It was easy, reliable, comfortable, inexpensive and usually not crowded. It took a scenic highway route that started all my trips on a pleasant note. I could just pile into a back seat with the area mostly to myself and just chill for an hour. Same for the ride back to the city after a trip and winding through the streets of Taipei being glad to be back. MRT not quite the same. I’ll miss that.

yeah, let’s say that airport MRT not really my most favourite airport link ever. It’s so slow tbh, I would love more and more express trains to run all the way to Taoyuan HSR station so can do more Nangang HSR-Taoyuan HSR and then MRT airport express to airport, would cut quite some time not stopping at those small stations in between.

Alas, the line still not 100% completed, so have to wait most likely to see some developments.

Yes @dark.horse that’s the key: from which district / MRT stop area? Options will vary depending on the starting point.

I wonder if anyone of you happens to know why there is a Austrian Airlines aircraft sitting at Taoyuan Airport?
The first time I saw it at the hangars was at least over a year ago and when I went on vacation two weeks ago it was still there.
I was thinking maybe a previous diversion due to technical issues? Because Austrian doesn’t fly to Taoyuan. But why would it take so long to fix it up? It also costs airlines to have a aircraft sitting somewhere else, right?

Is this what you saw?

TPE is a hub for maintenance of aircrafts, so you see “odd” airliners of airlines not serving TPE here.

Didn’t know that, thanks for the info!

at times even just engines are shipped in for maintenance, even military jet engines!

A post was merged into an existing topic: :airplane: Airlines | StarLux

The main point of the video is reviewing CI A350 intra-regional J class, but he makes again the point of: TPE is not the most beautiful airport out there (far from it), but it’s EFFICIENT. that’s it, efficiency. Give me that over beauty any day of the week (while keeping it also that clean)

Thank you for posting this video. I just flew in on an A321neo on CI this morning at 5am. I was impressed with the plane. My last few flights on CI were all pretty old planes, so this was a very nice surprise. When I choose my seat when I checked in online yesterday, I wasn’t thrilled to find out that it was a single aisle flight - but it was actually pretty roomy with very nice molded seats and huge screens for each of us. Check out the mood lighting at 3am this morning just before we took flight

So, I echo what Nonstop Dan feels about CI - underrated, including by me. I am a fan of both Starlux and EVA, but have been flying CI recently because its scheduling happens to have been convenient for me (except for today’s flight, which was a boneheaded mistake - I originally thought I was booking a 3pm flight and was unable to cancel the booking for free in time).

I was not surprised at how clear Terminal 1 was at TPE given the early hour. I zipped right through and was on the curb waiting for an Uber ride in 20 min, most of that time being waiting at the baggage carousel. Efficient, indeed!

Love CI A321 neos. Flew on TPENRT in biz class (thank you miles) and was really impressed. They really stepped up, and I am all for it!

The CI lounge in TPE was OK? I’ve only visited one of them, and I think I stayed for maybe five minutes tops before leaving.

there are 3 of them now: the “main” one at T1 next to CX and JX and the plaza premium at that mezzanine just after immigration, the small one at T2 and then a weird one (haven’t been yet) basically between T1 and T2. Everyone who can access lounges with CI (so skyteam elite plus, biz passengers and biz passengers of other Skyteam airlines) can access all of them, there is no segmentation like with BR (although in the main lounge at T1 there is an exclusive area for the top tier flier, Paragon).

I tried the main one at T1 and the small one at T2. Food is decent at T1’s, the beef noodles were nice (catered by the now Hyatt Regency airport hotel formerly novotel), but incredibly dark, felt like a vault. not a lot of seating either. I can spend 1 hr tops, then would get crazy.

The small T2 has more light, much worse food (was really sad tbh) but good booze (THEY HAVE KAOLIANG!, 100 points from me haha). seating is very little and they have one small shower, but with the booze and views over the check in area I can spend some more time there without going insane.

I tried also CI lounge at NRT, I like it! The don’t pretend to be fancy, but good food (had very decent kitsune udon), good beer and a small view on the jetbridges area. Heard the one in BKK is shit, never been though. Also heard bad things on the SFO one.

I hate that lounge, I’ve often just picked up a couple of snacks and a drink to have elsewhere, it’s like a cave. Hate to think what it would be like in an earthquake or god forbid a fire!

Just back from a short trip and felt like I’d gone back in time leaving terminal one! Arranged pick up from exit 23, had several “taxi, uber” offers from undesireables on the way to the exit and then a couple more whilst waiting outside, the last time I experienced that must be at least 15 years ago if not more. Have I just been lucky or have the scammers recently returned?! Hopefully no one falls for it these days, the whispered “taxi, uber”, the tracksuit leg stuck halfway up a calf and the roma gypsie like leather jacket surely must be enough to ensure convince all but the biggest idiots that going anywhere with them would not be a good idea! The plume of smoke from the smokers who had drifted from the smoking area and the chaotic parking outside all added to the early 2000’s feel! Police must have been on a night off or perhaps they don’t come out when it’s under 20C…

I still see them from time to time, even inside the arrival area by the doors. I just walk past them, they are not insistent and that’s fine.
