Has any tried adding their local Taiwanese address to amazon.com (the USA site) recently? They’ve added a new address validation system and I’m confused on how it works.
Firstly, you’re not allowed to use Chinese characters. The whole address must be in English.
Next, you’re no longer allowed to manually type the district or city. “Nangang” and “Taipei City” both get rejected as “invalid”.
Under the new system, you must enter a 6-digit zipcode, and then the system automatically fills in the district and city using Pinyin romanization.
In the example above, it auto-fills district and city as “NAN GANG QU” and “TAI BEI SHI”.
The confusing thing is, I’ve never seen this type of romanized address used in Taiwan before.
Has anyone here used this new address validation system and successfully received an overseas parcel?
I ran into the same thing. I agree, the address ends up looking dumb, but mine did still get delivered to my apartment anyway. Might be up to your individual delivery person since I agree the spelling is just stupid.
In case noone has experience yet, you could check this: Does the Amazon function give the same result as the official Chunghwa Post “translation” system? If yes, probably no concern.
Yes I hit this issue too. It’s extremely annoying. I felt it’s yet another marker of the enshittification of amazon which, having basically killed off its competitors, can now do a range of user unfriendly things with apparently no cares in the world.
Well Amazon may have crushed its competitors in the US but at least for a significant number of products, PC Home 24H works well here in Taiwan. It’s frustrating to use as a newbie with a very small Chinese vocabulary, but in-browser translation helps a ton. I rarely use Amazon anymore since I got better at searching on PC Home.
No, to enter some address information, and then have to select from options (seemingly including every address in the country) on automated lists. Sometimes you can still choose to stick with your non-standard address, if you prefer.
I rarely use PChome anymore - Shoppee is much better, with a larger range of sellers and more importantly user reviews. Momo has also introduced user reviews, but maybe they’re curated as there aren’t many negative ones.
Standard Chartered bank uses this system - and my street isn’t on their list of selectable streets
This happened to me about a month ago. Nobody I asked new about the different type of zipcode so I just put in 1s after the first 3 digits and package still arrived. Dont recall what I did for the city name.
Also, my account gets banned and I have to create a new one after every purchase. Amazon frowns on VPNs. Not related but just thought I’d add
PC home is way better but you pay for it. It has less selection but better customer support and you can use (foreign) credit cards. Probably about half of my shopee orders go wrong and since I ccan only do COD, its just money lost
