Was in Taipei past few days, heard them lot more than in the past? (compared here in South-Cental)
Is it the cold or just lots of elders needing them?
Much higher density of people and vehicles in Taipei than South Central so would expect to have a lot more ambulance activity.
Maybe you were on one of their main transit routes.

Ambulances in winter 60% of the time are just a taxi service to take old people to hospital.
