Animals Taiwan Kaohsiung Needs a Volunteer Webmaster

Animals Taiwan Kaohsiung is non for profit animal welfare organisation based in Kaohsiung. We are the southern branch of Animals Taiwan(www.animalstaiwan.org) based in Taipei.

You can read this thread for a decent explanation of what we need done:
forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.php?t=57962

We are willing to pay a fee for setting it up, and we are willing to pay for regular maintenance once the website is set up and running, but we’re hoping that someone would volunteer to do it for cheaper if not for free as a contribution to helping animals in need, here in Taiwan. If you only have time to set it up, we can find someone to maintain the site later.

I’m not sure what other details to provide at this point because I know very little about websites, and that’s why we hope that someone who knows more about this stuff can step up and help us out.

So if you care about the animals who suffer more than they should on the streets of Kaohsiung, and would like to help out, contact me anytime so that we can discuss how to go about setting up a good website that will help us carry on our mission to make a difference in the lives of unfortunate animals.

Thank you in advance,

Note the the moderators:If you can leave this thread in this forum for the time being, that would be appreciated. I will let you know as soon as we find help. Thank you!

On behalf of all of us with Animals Taiwan island wide, I would like extend a big welcome to our new webmaster.

Brendon has offered to help out. His expertise is something that our furry friends will certainly benefit from. We are stoked, and honored to have you as a key member of the team, Brendon. :notworthy:

Chris

Excellent news! Thank you, Brendon, and welcome to the team.

I can say with absolutely no doubt that our website has had such an important and huge impact on our growth and standing that we would have only helped half the animals we have if we didn’t have dearpeter doing his webmaster thing at our end. Hoping you two can work together to make the sites - and AnimalsTaiwan - even bigger and better than they are already.

Thanks again, Brendon. :bravo: :notworthy:

Make sure Chris buys you a few beers at the very least.

I hope I am not speaking out of turn here, but I am wondering if it wouldn’t be a bad idea to combine the efforts of all the animal rescue groups on the island into a single web portal.
I believe much of the information relating to information and care of rescued animals is essentially the same to all groups, and perhaps within the main portal there could be divisions by areas/groups relating to local vets, adoptions available, volunteering, fundraising etc.

I just feel with respect to a web presence , it may have a greater impact overall to consolidate efforts.

You make good sense. What we are doing is very similar to that, Truant. We are not combining both website, but we are cloning the existing AT website and adapting the content where necessary for Kaohsiung.

From there any improvements to one site can be easily copied to the other site.

So yeah, we are consolidating our efforts, but we are keeping two segregated sites for pratical reasons. ie: Animals for adoptions, contacts, sponsors publicity, events, etc, etc.

Peter created a very useful tool recently; a discussion forum, and that will not be duplicated. Volunteers and members island-wide now have a meeting ground.

I agree completely. In fact, we have already started the process: we are in meetings with several animal-welfare organizations to discuss how we can best support each other, employ the same procedures, and outsource to each other the work that is done more easily by another group. It’s not easy getting everyone on board, but I think we can make considerable progress.

One important issue I feel is to have only one easy-to-use website showing lost and found animals, so that owners don’t have to traipse through twenty or thirty websites when trying to find their lost dog or to reunite one with his family.

Good ideas, and ones we intend to follow (actually, this was one of our goals when setting up AnimalsTaiwan).

I also agree, but I think that this is something that can come in time, maybe sooner than later.

It’s not too early to consider what Truant suggested. The thing is, until AT expand to working in other countries, I think a website for both the biggest metropolis’s in Taiwan will be more practical, and useful for the time being.

Besides, we need to have a solid online representation by the time we inaugurate our new holding center, and that will happen much faster than we can possibly hope to have the necessary changes made to the existing AT website. (next month)

I think that the route we are taking now could be seen as a part of the logical first step in the consolidation of AT’s nation-wide efforts to help animals in need.
