Looks like Google will soon be coming out with an online spreadsheet. labs.google.com/
I’ll probably use this to post and keep my grades updated and my students can take a look at how they are doing. I just hope they have read only and read/write permissions!

Then seem to just keep bringing stuff out.
I just checked out the Google spreadsheet function (just click on the link top left of your gmail) and it looks pretty cool.

I use google spreadsheets extensively. They’re fantastic! And yes, there are two kinds of permissions - read only, and edit.
[quote=“KenTaiwan98”]Been using spreadsheets more and more… and learning some stuff…
Anyone know how to insert data from another spreadsheet (not just a sheet in the same document?)

well, not sure if this answers you question but I was specifically interest in seeing if I could convert and existing .xls spreadsheet to a google one.
Absolutely no problem at all, just choose open>browse or similar.
The sheets in google can be saved as .xls files too, which is nice, but one of the really great features of google spreadsheets is the ability to share them while they are hosted at google, and set view or edit permissions as mentioned above.
Nothing. But cool things off the top of my head for GS is…
Ability to work on something with others (over great distances), ability to work on something on any OS that has an internet connection (Linux, Mac, Windows), having the file only a web surf away from wherever you are in the world.
I don’t know if I’d use ONLY GS, but it definitely could be a useful tool to know about from time to time.
Sharing with others is cool. But having all your documents in one store where you can access them from everywhere is A Good Idea. Also, it lessens your risk that you forget to back everything up and then your hard disk dies etc… Because Big Brother (sorry, Google) is taking care of your files.
