Another murder in Yonghe

From what I can gather, a tourist murdered his landlord via stabbing in Yonghe, has been detained by the police already. Was over an argument about rent. Unsure if laowai or not .

Not sure the details but it is DEEPLY disturbing how no one cares at all and asked the guy or helped him. Just walk by and ignore him. I thought we were proud of our compassionate superiority to china?

Sometimes it’s nice not to live in a city, that news literally makes me sick.

probably Taiwanese domestic tourist from elsewhere, otherwise media would have “foreigner” in Chinese in every sentence.

I think he is not a tourist.

The guy died from blood loss but the report said he was treated over an hour later.

I can’t help but think if someone got him to the hospital immediately instead of walking by, he’d still be alive .

I think one major issue is that Taiwan allows for good Samaritans to be sued if something they do injures the person further so people just prefer to do nothing that way they don’t get sued. Kinda warped thinking but the law is stupid that way.

Yeah it could be his last name is Yu.

It might have been internal bleeding. Some sharp objects leave no visible external mark, so maybe people did not believe him, thought he was drunk, etc.

It’s difficult to injure someone further by calling for an ambulance.

Yep, but appliying a compress to teh wound might have helped hold back the bleeding enough for the guy not to bleed to death.

Not that I think anyone in hsi vicinity -or mine- knows anything about first aid. Nor emergency procedures. Nor escape routes. Nor self preservation.

Nor how to use a phone, it seems.

I totally get that.
My comment related to the mindset of people not to get involved as they might get caught up in a problem themselves.

I think it’s a horrible mindset but it is what it is

The average person doesn’t think it through that far. The culture instills a heuristic: not your business; don’t get involved. The average person mindlessly applies heuristics to most situations.

Chinese media also said something on people just walked by.

It seems there were people who were calling to police or ambulance car just after the incident, though. They were not in the camera angle.

Not surprised at all, Yonghe, Sanzhong and a few others are gangster territory.

Wow…I lived in that same lane (竹林路91巷) some 16 years ago…also in the B1 basement of an apartment (公寓) that’s just next to the Kindergarten…My Landlord back then also had many 套房’s up for rent.

Most people wouldn´t know what to do, like turning thepaerosn over, making sure the blood does not obstruct the air passage, apply pressure so the wound may not bleed out, etc.

People here run to the bathroom when there is a fire. They pick up people after they have been hit by a car… and shake them. They run to the hospital with a kid when they are shocking. etc.

For all their schooling and buxiban, like in the West, life or death basics are not taught.

Are the gangsters still a-gangstering in Taipei?

I thought they were flushed out of the city and headed south a decade ago…?

Oh you mean when president Chen did the purge on brothels and casinos in Taipei…
Many of them went to Taichung but some still around , depends on districts, plenty of underground casinos in Peitou for example. Not like the 80s and 90s but still here.

Yonghe is getting a reputation here. Uncomfortably close.

They had a dispute about the toilet…?

The head is in that red suitcase?

A lot of people live there. And have you driven through there recently? Could drive anyone to murder.
