Antidepressants

Hi,

I am moving to Taiwan in May. I need to know what is needed to get a prescription for Zoloft there. Is this medication available? Do I need to bring my prescription from home? Can I get it from a pharmacy or only from doctors?

Thanks for any help.

I remember when you could buy Valium over the counter no prescription here…

Zoloft is available, don’t know if you need a prescription

Here’s another similar thread you may find useful: forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.php?t=12576

Yes, it’s available, and yes you need a prescription. The good thing is that it is covered by the National Health Insurance (NHI). The last time I checked, however, the NHI didn’t allow regular physicians to prescribe medications like that, so you would have to go to an actual psychiatrist. Maybe it’s changed by now, but I’m not sure. Just go find a regular doctor and ask, and if he can’t give it to you, go to a hospital with a psychiatric department and get a prescription. If you don’t have the NHI, though, it might be a bit expensive.

After reading how Chocolate got deported from the country for having a STD which was cured, I am wondering if they (government authorities) could use one having a psychiatric problem, like depression, in order to deport someone?
I would be kind of nervous about visiting a psychiatrist in Taiwan because I don’t know what could happen if that information got into the wrong hands.
Does anyone know if having a psychiatric problem could be used as grounds for deportation?

If I remember correctly, the reason for his deportation was that he GAVE an STD to 2 locals. He also admitted to this.

Bring as much of your medicine as you can.
Before we came here we brought a 6month supply of Zoloft, kept the prescriptions and so forth. There was no problems going through customs.

That 6month supply should last you until you can find somebody who can supply you with it. You can aquire Zoloft from most hospitals that have a specialist in the head department (as we have done).

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. In the other thread someone mentioned a prescription isn’t needed though. Is that correct?

Stupid question … but who is “Chocolate”?

You don’t know who chocolate is? You clearly don’t hang out in gay bars. Chocolate was the king of the circuit boy scene for ten years running in Taipei. He was a big black guy who had a lot of boyfriends. He had a cookbook published and a radio show for a while on ICRT.

I’m surprised we haven’t met, LittleBuddha. I wish I could go back in time and study what you’re studying, but I studied English Lit. and Education. I’m currently a grad student in Canada.//
