Anxiety and Depression

The reality is chronic depression is multifactorial. There isn’t probably going to be 1 thing to fix it. It is a nasty cycle and only you can break it by doing something different for yourself and sticking with it.

I don’t know much about depression. I had (and still somewhat deal with) anxiety. The way I dealt with it was doing anything and everything that would help (see above in this thread). It was when I adopted this approach that I started to see a change. I would say I’m about 90% recovered. Some days I feel 100%, but then some issue will come up and I can tell there are still remnants of the illness.

My friend who started dealing with depression at around the same time (2022) had difficulty doing things my way, especially the exercise part because he had such low motivation to even get out the door when Saturday came.

But if you can, TL, I recommend a multi-pronged approach: Do a good number of things all at the same time. Experiment and see what works for you and what doesn’t.

3 free counseling sessions

I wonder whether foreigners are included? I skimmed several stories but couldn’t see anything.

What problems do you have? You make a lot of money.

@moderators please delete this and the resulting messages.

I get you were being sarcastic, but I’m more asking out of curiosity given Taiwan’s practice of excluding foreigners from other stuff like long-term disability benefits.

From X account where I first got that link:

Foreign nationals with NHI were eligible for the program last year.

So, looks fine if have NHI.

Line up for your flogging!

:flog:

We have no flogging the dead horse emoji? Now I’m depressed! :pensive:

I need those three sessions now.

Go drunk to make a good impression.

The sarcasm was fine as far as I’m concerned — I wasn’t offended (I’m a bit merry anyway, on the train to Fulong :man_shrugging:). :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s worth noting that there have been similar publicly funded health-related schemes that resident foreigners (with NHI) weren’t excluded from, like smoking cessation/nicotine replacement therapy programs, and this one according to @CTaitung. That should be the norm rather than the exception anyway, IMO, so it’s nice when it happens.

Headed to Hohaiyan? I’m in Hualien, otherwise I would have gone.

Nope! The birthday BBQ of a friend with a beach house there, just a coincidence. Fulong was pretty busy though!

Or the more reason for it ha ha Pain and sex can be a great help for anxiety. Well that’s what a friend told me :joy:

Anyone feel like their brain runs faster (note: faster is not necessarily more effective) than the people around them and you have to forcefully slow yourself down and “turn down the volume” to basically a whisper on your loud thoughts because the people around you can’t handle all the TRUTH and REALITY?

The nothingburger people who appear to have no soul then become more successful because they don’t bring the chaos as hard as you do?

I found that when that happened my patience constricted and if I were lucky enough to recognize it, I would take a day.

Usually a Friday.

A friend of mine who had been dealing with anxiety ran and completed a 100km trail run. He tells me the last 15km were brutal. He cried and cried for 5-6km of that 15km segment with thoughts of his life swirling around his mind. After the race, he found his anxiety had disappeared. He swears he’s cured now.

I am trying to talk him into writing a detailed account of his experience. If he does, I will share it here.
