Any reviews on CAT phones?

Saw these advertising in the Costco store. The night vision mode seems attractive for us TNR cat catching folks, not to mention drop and water proof. Has anyone here actually bought one and used it? Any opinions?

Interesting. Iwont be spending that amount of money on a phone ever, but am interested to hear if you try it out. I like how its called CAT and you want it for tnr. how perfect! seems possibly great for hunting different animals in the dark for sure.

Ya, but the difference is he/she is literally hunting cats for tnr. How amazing would it be having a city trooper in CAT boots with some kind of CAT city searching machine caterpillar style with this phone looking for cats to slice the balls off of.

anywho. the phones functions look interesting. especially for animal hunting. I know a lot of people that are currently using regular cameras with IR function as well. should be useful on the invasive cat front too.

Another thing flir camera is helpful, to know if food at a so called buffet is cold without touching them. Only thing worse than being overcharged for food is overcharged for cold food.

Eh I’m a she, one of the few here.

I got the idea from Sean. They used a drone with a thermal camera to catch a badly wounded dog.

Though that worked in the mountains with coverage I wonder how effective it is in an urban setting, say, a market or an alley.

OTOH a rugged phone would be ideal considering my cats like to play hockey with mine.

Ya, having it on a phone really would cut down weight and be pretty convenient.

Found anyone that has tried it yet?

Nope.

Phone looks good but it’s a 2020 model. Next model up - not available yet- is a satellite phone option.

That’s why I would like to know someone who actually owns and uses the thing. YouTube reviews are good but I’d like someone here in Taiwan to say yeah, dropped it and it was crushed by a scooter but still works.

It also depends on how big that phone is… if that phone is the size of a brick, I don’t care if it’s got a freaking medical tricorder on it and can take X rays, see in infrared, and have a talking battery life of 2 years, and can survive being run over by a freaking blue truck, nobody will want it. Sacrifices are made to its feature to make it portable.

But I do wish my phone have a FLIR camera… it will make picking out HOT food at “buffets” much easier without touching the food.

It ain’t cheap but it’s really not that expensive as far as phones go… considering that an iphone 14 costs almost 1000 US. FLIR is certainly a very good feature to have, and you can swim with it.

gotcha. that’s why I dont buy new phones either. they do also tend to be pretty shitty. plus chinese. plus less freedom. plus invasive on privacy. so I wouldnt spend that money unless all those concerns were remedied.
