Anybody recently to Yunnan / Myanmar?

Hi all,

I would like to travel to Yunnan and to Myanmar in a couple of weeks and intend to cross the border from Yunnan to Myanmar on land. Has anybody done something like this recently? I have read it is possible, but I don’t know if I will have to book a tour with a local agent or if I just can hop on a bus that will take me to the border town of Ruili. Any tips are welcome. What are the best places to look at and to stay, what would be the best travel guide book? …

Thanks

Technically the land border crossing as of earlier this year is closed to all except to Myanmar or Chinese citizens, however if you still wish to try it, then you need to apply for the visa in KunMing and make sure that they validate it for a land crossing at that point, even then there is no guarantee they will allow you through.

Best of luck, it can be done, but you will need a lot of luck to do it.
