I thought they only existed in Japan, but now Taiwan has one too.
A “maid cafe” is a popular new trend from 2006 in Tokyo’s Akihabara district. It’s a manga-stocked cafe where girls dress up in french maid outfits and act more submissive than usual. It’s supposed to be a dream world for nerds who live for manga and video games, otakus. The girls say things like “i put extra love in your coffee today” and similar.
But I was walking in that enormous underground mall under the Taipei Main Train Station and when I got down to the far far corner where there are mostly Indonesian restaurants, I spotted a maid cafe. They had taiwanese girls working there but speaking japanese, bowing, with their hair dyed brown, sparkling glitter makeup on their eyelids, looking like a bunch of little Ayumi Hamasakis.
And then… i tried to go in, naturally, but — they were full up, seems I need to reserve a spot in advance! so business must be good.
But, I do wonder, was this place full up with creepy, balding, fat, short, old white guys?
I expect it would be filled with such creepies.
Read the OP. They were “full” i.e. “no furriners.” This is strictly for domestic Asian fetishists.
Good eye, but I think they were legitimately full because I could see in the windows, and also they gave me their business card and begged me to make an appointment, “yoroshiku onegaishimasu” and etc.
I give it a week before the white fat dudes take over. I should know. I’m not only their president, I’m also a client.
There were a few articles in mag’s and TV. Never the less, the girls working there are not the types you see in KTV’s, so do not get wet dreams. They do look like puberal Japanese schoolgirls …if that is your Fetish.
As for Tokyo, the trend now is that some of those Maid cafe’s put mirrors or dark reflecting marble on the floor giving the spectators another “point of view”. Funny to see how everybody is stairing at the floor hehe.
Word around is that in some of those places, the waitresses accidently forgot sometimes to wear underwear.
It’s actually illegal in Japan to have pantsless girls working the mirrored floor… there was a famous place in Tokyo where, every time you’d order a (ridiculously overpriced) drink, the girl would have to reach up to the top shelf of a cabinet to get it and you’d get a good view. But they shut it down… and then it re-opened with the girls in transparent panties. The Japanese respect the LETTER of the law. That they do.
So are the drinks ridiculously overpriced here or just in Japan?
Me thinks a covert investigation might be in order.
Miltownkid, paging Miltownkid: We’re going in!

When seeing those girls working there on TV, you HAVE to ask if they are +16 when you do your cover OP ! do not take risks
Good call… they should be forced to pin their ID cards to the hem of their maidskirts.
But i think they all passed, from what I saw.
Seriously if one of y’all goes to the Taipei cafe, pls. take cameraphone pics and share with the world. More fun to watch than Mr. Meow Meow, I can tell you that much.
I’ll go, but only in disguise. Where can I rent one of those tentacle-monster suits? I bet it would raise a few chuckles if you walked in there dressed as tentacle-porn monster.
Pity Lord Lucan’s buggered off to Chancres – he’d know where to get one for sure.
I passed along the story of this Maid Cafe place to two of my Taiwanese friends. They played shocked and surprised and tried to pass themselves off as being slightly disgusted…you know, so they wouldn’t “seem” like pervs or anything. They sure did have a lot of questions though.
The next day my wife tells me that she was chatting with one of them. Turns out that very night they made a b line straight for Maid Cafe to check it out. Ha!
The report was as follows:
The girls don’t speak Japanese. They speak Mandarin.
They are dressed in maid outfits, yes. But the maid outfits are so fluffy that you can only guess as to the shape of what is underneath. And they are long dresses, wearing socks that cover the legs…very little skin showing at all.
They do call you Master when serving your food and drinks, and act the part of the submissive, timid, servant girl.
There are no mirrors on the floor.
There is no back room for dessert.
And the prices are about the same as your average Dante.
My friends said that it was hardly an aphrodisiac at all. They admit that the girls had a cute factor, but that was about it. I had to ask…what were they expecting? Naughty Naughty naughty…and here we westerners get pegged with the so called Asian Fetish label…HA! These Asian guys are just as guilty if not more.
I do not doubt that the girls there speak Excellent mandarin. But they also speak at least some japanese such as “irrashaimase” and 'Yoroshiku ne" and other standard phrases that anyone can learn. Just like when you go into a japanese-style restaurant here, the staff will invariably below some attempt at 'irrashaimase" (welcome).
It’s good to know that its not much more expensive than dante’s.
And is it a turn on / off? I guess for sheer ‘I’m Japanese!’ fetishists, it must have a certain appeal. And for anime nerds. If your friends are neither, they may not be that into it.
To be honest, I don’t think that Most of the maid cafes in Japan are that different, except for the prices. They’re not known to have particularly revealing outfits… it’s the cosplaying that drives the otakus crazy.
But thanks for the report!! much appreciated. now I know i can afford it.
This Maid cafe thing will go like KTV’s here. (or as the bars on Lin Sen)
It now started with one of these maid cafe’s , already making profit it seems, other will pop up , wanting to make more profit and at the end, in a year or two we will have plenty of flesh in mini skirts to stare at with naughty talks attitude and dessert after lunch. Note this in your agenda. 2 years max before there are tons of them with different “styles”
