Anyone else find it difficult to do proper shoulder checks / lifesavers on a motorbike in Taiwan?

In my country I’m used to having the space between traffic that allows enough time to do an adequate shoulder check when changing lanes. But the traffic is usually so close together in cities here, it feels difficult to even do a proper shoulder check without potentially slamming into the person in front if they suddenly slow down.

I notice most people here virtually never do shoulder checks. But I’ve also noticed there’s an absolute deluge of dangerous motorbike riders here. How do you handle it?

I like to think that I maintain very good situational awareness so I have a good idea of who’s around me already. Then just a super quick shoulder check before changing lanes. It’s a big worry is speeders who don’t understand how the turning signals work.

I don’t think most even use the mirrors

You can’t do them for long or you’ll plough into the vehicle in front that wasn’t there before you shoulder checked. Use those turn signal lights even for small swerves left or fight .
