Anyone here lived in Dubai before?

I saw lots of work advertisements online, many foreign companies there and I am thinking about applying. I wonder if someone here know about the city and can share something.

What do you want to know? I had a friend who worked there for several years, and we layed over a few times going to/from Europe.

Lots of malls & shopping, some good beaches (in the winter), blazing infernal summer heat that keeps everyone inside.
Oodles of ex-pats, with food & bars to suit.
Bad driving, plenty of ostentatious wealth, and on the flip side thousands of migrant workers in terrible conditions, plus a thriving whore scene.

I wouldn’t like to do any time there, unless the $$$ was really worth it.

Thank you! I am going to finish school and leave the island so I am hunting for a starting point. There are lots of job advertisements for Dubai city, and I just wanted a general idea of the place.

OK, i found a good website about the issue:

expatarrivals.com/dubai/moving-to-dubai

Don’t have sex on the beach there, unless its the cocktail.

Yes I am living in Dubai from past 10 years

I’ve visited about five times.

Seems like anything, legal or not, or banned, is available.

Don’t want to live there unless it’s such an over the top offer that I can’t refuse. I would still be reluctant.

I’ve been purposely avoiding Dubai myself.

My parents visited there. Granted it was just a one week visit but they’re old and have visited dozens of countries in their lives… they said it was the most soulless place they’ve ever been. Everything is superficial and fake. They said they’d never go back.

Guys you’re replying to a gravedig by a bot…why bother?

You’re replying too.

Who cares why it’s bumped? If people want to discuss something, let them discuss it. We’re all killing time on the toilet or MRT anyway.

On the MRT toilet even?

You must have some fancy MRTs in Taipei. In Kaohsiung, the old people just go in their pants while waiting in their priority seats.
