So, as I am job hunting, I noticed an awful lot of job postings at KAS. Has anyone heard what is going on with what looks like a major overhaul before I apply to what looks like a possible red-flag situation?
I canāt tell you if there is anything in particular going on there, but KAS generally has a good reputation and is one of the new proper international schools on the island. could be a coincidence or maybe theyāre clearing house.
Incompetence or just not up to snuff. Parents are paying like 30,000 USD (!!) a year. Teachers canāt be slumming like theyāre at a buxiban chain. Anyway, Iād think thatās the most likely scenario. Iām not ruling out a revolt against wokeness, but havenāt seen evidence of that except one post here iirc.
Itās ānon-profitā, but most likely not enough non-profit surplus is being made? Their focus on DEIJ might have impacted that surplus, perhaps. It does seem odd for all three of them to be replaced.
Hmm, well, for now, they still hold a good reputation. Meh, Iāll throw my hat in the ring and see if they come back with an offer. In this market, what do I have to lose?
Oh, I thought they were just cleaning house of teachers. If itās principals then maybe @TT is right that thereās some administrative overhaul happening.
So who else would fire all the principles dāya think ? . And who hired them in the first place ?
Stellar management with all those fees going into it. Looks great.
I hate to defend teachers in Taiwan but these local boards need to sniff the stench of global reality. A teacher with a posh degree, teaching experience etc. being lectured by a local hayseed board? Iād tell the local board to bite my choda! Theyāll clean house then hire cheap! And then wonder where it all went wrong.
Yeah, I have also heard some people talking about how TAS enrollment is down. It made me wonder why, and one of my first thoughts was the woke stuff. Definitely a lot of woke folk working at the school, and it just took time for all that stuff to bubble up. Iām not surprised that most of the parents are rejecting it, and good for them!
One person I met who worked for an organization affiliated with TAS was telling me about the enrollment decrease, but didnāt mention any specific reason. They are now having open house events, which they have never needed to do before and also some real social media campaigns to attract students, which they also have pretty much never done before. Plus there are of course more āinternational schoolsā than ever nowadays (most of them are fake, but there are some that are legit, or at least seem very legit) so just an increase in competition. My thoughts on these places was that their greatest weakness is that they are (for the most part) Taiwanese owned and managed, but if TAS is going whole hog on the woke stuff, then this ironically becomes a real strength.
In a more general sense, the school has struggled to find good, long term top level leadership ever since Dr. Hennessey left like 5-6 years ago.
