Hi! I’m a new arrival to Taipei and staying in Wanhua District. I’m looking to make some new friends. I enjoy trying new food spots, good conversation, and sports activities. If you’re looking for a friend to share some meals with, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s get together to check out restaurants in the area.
Just be cautious in the Wanhua hood if u don’t already know.
Quite a few crazy foreigner stories arise from there.
Links to said stories?!
Enjoy, I guess? Lol
I ride my bike through Wanhua (heading towards riverside for some exercise) mornings and sometimes after dark and see lots of foreigners walking around.
Man alone, women alone, couples.
The mornings ones look like they live there and they’re on the way to work or something.
I lived in Wanhua for a year. It was fine, but I did see some sketchy people at night a few times. And involuntarily learned a lot of 台語髒話 by just walking in the neighborhood. The rent was $6000 cheaper than similar places in Taipei though so I’m not complaining ![]()
I’ve known quite a few foreigners who lived in Wanhua and have never heard of them having problems. One of them finds it entertaining and sort of endearing that she shares a residential building with prostitutes, though, which might not be for everyone.
I lived in that area for three years. It’s not necessarily dangerous, but it just got to be annoying. It’s not as clean and you run into more “characters” vs other parts of the city. Again it’s nothing major, it just wore us out. You can get more for your money there though and the river bike access is nice.
There are many services around every corner to meet people with complementary tee drinking.

One of the service centers unexpectedly closed down.
Well done to the po po for cracking that case. Must have taken some real detective work. ![]()
You can sure bet all the old men in the neighborhood are going to vote out whoever is running the district.
i’m surprised that the cops took that long to figure it out. even google map from way back january 2022 has a cop standing in front of the building. ![]()

Sometimes it takes time to sort everything out!
They most likely conducted a lot of undercover investigations posing as clients. It’s a tough job.
Clean up in Wanhua continues.
The random dumping of trash is a common problem in Taipei City. In Wanhua District, the situation became so serious that nine borough chiefs jointly complained to Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安).
…
A NT$3,600 (US$111) fine was imposed for offenses such as not disposing of trash properly, littering, discarding cigarette buts, and placing illegal advertisements. A fine of NT$3,000 was levied for allowing livestock to urinate or defecate in the road or other public areas.
Piling up items that obstruct cleanliness or hygiene along the roadside, spitting betel nut juice residue and chewing gum, and polluting the ground, drains, walls, or other fixtures will result in a minimum fine of NT$2,400.

Is there a lot of livestock in Wanhua?! ![]()
I’m guessing it includes cats and dogs? Not too long ago dogs were livestock…
Also a lot of older taiwanese grew up on farms so they’ll keep chickens around. Then you got pigeons for racing.
I’m sure there are pig farms too. I’m seeing trucks full of pigs on the way to the bacon factory.
I live next to longshan temple. There’s a lot of prostitutes there, also a homeless camp.
I saw an old lady pissing in the street outside Carrefour. I mean she was just standing there pissing through her dress. I also saw an old man pissing on the street outside my apartment one night.
Apart from getting harassed by prostitutes every day, and dodging homeless people, it’s lovely here.
