Had to get an FBI check when I first came to Taiwan for work permit with the Ministry of Education. But just got off the phone with NIA staff and they say I do need one now for APRC???
yes reading wrong. if you submitted one at the start, but traveled abroad for 3+ months, then you must resubmit. and if you never submitted one ever, then you must submit.
The police check would have been submitted to the Ministry of Education that then issued a work permit that is submitted to NIA for the ARC, therefore NIA wouldn’t have the record of the police check on their system as that wasn’t a required document to submit to them.
You could ask NIA if you can get a record from MOE would they accept that but I’m not sure if its possible.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I’ll give your suggestion a try, irish91.
Too bad the MOE and NIA databases don’t overlap. Teachers have to submit background checks to get ARC from NIA in the first place — “where there’s smoke (ARC from education-related job) there’s fire (background check)” and all…
And I’ve never been abroad for 3+ months at a time, so no time to commit crimes at home even . That’s good they’re being thorough though. (Hope they can also be so thorough with making sure our A(P)RC numbers work in all places it should too … but I digress)
