ARC/APRC number format to be changed starting in 2020

Yawn. Been here twenty plus years.
2nd redesign of ARC numbers. The first time we assumed they would be in line with the local ID numbers, without actually being promised.
You know the true meaning of “Assume?”
The second time, I bet there will be a character in this ID marking us as different.
Maybe not. I got to borrow an expensive wireless iPad from immigration. That was nice.
I do miss the word “Alien” on my latest APARC. I always told my students I’m an actual alien 外星人.

What’s an APARC?

This acronym is to show that we are a part of Taiwan, yet also apart.

Very good. Can you think of a catchy phrase to fit the letters?

I read somewhere that it got delayed again due to the mess from Beijing bat AIDS.

That seems to be the excuse for everything these days “Well you know due to Covid 19…”.

Hope this is the right thread.

I recently moved to the 6-month job search ARC. I’ve just noticed they’ve changed me to the new number format. My question is: will this affect the years I’ve accumulated towards APRC? I was under the impression you had to keep the same number for the duration of the 5 years.

The ID format change has no influence on time accumulated towards APRC.

It has a few other time consuming drawbacks though
