Arc $$

I guess this is legal, but wondering how common it is. Have a friend that works for a small school. He just got his ARC this month and the school, without any hint of it, took the cost of his ARC out of his pay. Was kind of an ugly suprise.

Anyone else have this happen? Is this common or do schools usually take care of the cost?

Matt

I’ve always paid for my own ARC while the school pays for their end of the paperwork. I also pay for my own medical exam for the work permit.

Very sneaky, and probably double-dipping. The school will probably record the ARC fee as a business expense and take the business tax deduction from the government, while taking the money from you as well. At least, that’s what sneaky schools would do.

Check the contract. If it doesn’t say in the contract who has to pay then, well, too bad.

I’ve always paid for mine. A one year ARC is only an hour’s pay, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I’ve always paid for mine, too. Your friend has no reason to suspect foul play.

You lot don’t know how lucky you have it these days… you get someone else to do all the work and then get all stroppy when it’s not free. Bah! kids nowadays, you want the moon on a stick you do :grandpa:

Never paid for mine in seven years.

He wasn’t really bitching about it as much as it was just an unexpected expense and asked me about it. You know how it is your first month…high taxes, not a full month income. Top that with having a few thousand less on your paycheck that you didn’t expect and it just sucks.

He’ll survive though.
