Are “Passport Bros” the New Colonizers?

History has an uncomfortable habit of repeating itself, and the “Passport Bros” movement—where Western men travel abroad to find “traditional” wives—feels eerily similar to colonial exploitation.

For centuries, colonizers invaded foreign lands, not just for resources, but also for the women. Today, they carry passports instead of guns and HIV along with other STDs instead of the common cold.

So what do you think? Are passport bros the new colonizers of the third world?

Are they the same as Crypto Bros?

Colonization has been going on since antiquity, and your attempt to characterise something that’s been happening for 1000s of years all over the world as an invasion of foreign lands for resources and women sugests your mental picture is largely derived from Disney’s Pocahontas, or maybe that Kevin Costner movie.

You would have to go on a colony by colony basis.

And no, unless “passport bros” are establishing their own settlements in far off lands, they’re not colonists.

No, Passport Bros aren’t building settlements, but their behavior mirrors colonial exploitation. They leverage wealth disparities to control relationships, fetishise women under the guise of “traditional values,” and strip them of autonomy by creating dependency. It’s nothing more than modern day exploitation.

Is starting this thread some form of confession?

Waterworld?

So nothing like local men then.

For Taiwan specifically, who were the first passport bro?

Local men aren’t purposefully traveling to struggling economies to handpick women they can dominate, fetishize, and financially control.

Dutch merchants and Spanish missionaries

Sure they are. Haven’t you heard of Vietnamese brides?

I wasn’t actually referring to Taiwan. I was referring to SEA and South America.

But I note that I didn’t make it clear earlier.

They dont need to. They can do it here. And if not they can get a vietnamese wife.

Besides the fetish part. And what fetish is that exactly? Who is coming to Taiwan for fetishes?

The fetish where the girls expect the man to pay for everything and in return they sit on their ass and play on their phone 24/7?

I am one of the few who can proudly say I met mine in my home country and never had trouble dating in my home country… I know many who can only date in these third world countries.

Nothing new about it, just Tictok influencers clickbait people to get more hits.

And it’s working here.

The whole Passport Bro thing is just a bunch of b******* thing that started on Tictok.

You’re giving a very narrow definition of passport bro. Surely you would qualify as a passport bro using a broader definition.

“They don’t need to”? Interesting how quickly you pivot to importing a Vietnamese wife or finding someone locally who fits a certain stereotype.

It’s less about preferences and more about power—the need to feel superior, financially and socially, while calling it “traditional values.”

Meeting someone naturally in your home country isn’t even in the same league as flying into a “third world” country with a wallet full of foreign currency to meet an impoverished local girl.

Isn’t your wife Filipina?

Yes, met her in my home country of Taiwan (I didn’t travel to the Philippines to meet her nor did I plan to date a Filipina). She is also now wealthier than me through her online business…

So by your definition though… she traveled to Taiwan, she has far more money than me… is she a “passport bro?”

So maybe your wife is the passport bro in this relationship.
