Are posts being deleted?

When I first started I had flounder friends and we all met in the flounder forum, usually by accident.

It was a lot of fun, like little kids. We didn’t care if we smelled bad and flopped around like flounders.

Think I’ll head on over there …

:wanker: At least I keep my word. Weren’t you going to leave Forumosa for good? You came back :smiling_imp: Flip Flop mon frere!

We pleaded with him to come back. God knows why, but we did. Some of us anyway. :loco: I’m glad to see the fluffy around.

I just did some math: 31% of my posts are in the Flounder. Is that normal?

Your going to loose nearly 1/3rd of your post count when they eventually go down the gurgler.

Noooooooooooooooooo!!!
And they will soon flounder this thread too… :wall:

Sometimes, we don’t delete the posts, just move them to the mod only forum, if say, the post was a flame or something. Other times some of these mods THINK they are ninja’s and delete the post and not caring what happens, but thats what you get from ninja lovers.

Your going to loose nearly 1/3rd of your post count when they eventually go down the gurgler.
That wasn’t true a week ago(although with the new software maybe it is) but sometimes I wish it was. The’s many other things I wish were true but if they were I’d probably regret rubbing the lamp. There’s a thread about it. I could refer you straight to it but it’s here somewhere in Feedback and Announcements.

I found it so here’s the thread forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.ph … 18&start=0 The site went down a few days after that thread appeared . Maybe the new software does deduct post counts after the flounder disappearance.

It’s inevitable when there are a number of moderators there are going to be differing opinions on what a worthwhile post or thread subject is. It’s not really surprising many posts are floundered or deleted. Differing opinions are also what make a forum and a message board work. Even this thread wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for them. It is possible to keep unlocked threads alive in flounder forum by keeping posting in the thread.

Chewy, this is like deja vu. Didn’t we have this discussion just a few months back? Post within the rules and your posts won’t get flamed or floundered. Didn’t you notice the TWO stickies in D&R about lewdness and pornography? And the part in the rules that says we’re not a porn site, therefore links to pornographic images may be deleted. Do you really need to be reminded of this AGAIN???

Then why do we have a NSFW logo on the Emoticons. Many links to websites that are semi- or full-pornographic in nature are not deleted. What constitutes full porn? I think a home page of a porn site – before you click on the enter section does not constitute a violation – just my opinion.

Considering my link showed no “pinky” :scooby: areas, why did you think it needed to be deleted?

Some of mine have been totally deleted, or had the pics removed. Some others which commented on that fact that my pics made them laugh have also gone… not floundered, just… deleted.

This pic below was deleted from the Being Stalked thread in D&R and so were the comments from others who made comments on it… also from one who said " I think I’m gonna be sick" in jest

Not lewd or pornographic imho…

SatelliteTV,

that pic was removed because it’s against the rules to out other Forumosans.

And especially moderators. However, I didn’t see any actual mention of Loretta’s name in relatoin to that photo, so how exactly was he outed?

Duh??? :unamused: Look at his hair! He’s the only one with long hair.

:wanker: At least I keep my word. Weren’t you going to leave Forumosa for good? You came back :smiling_imp: Flip Flop mon frere!
Yeah, what is it with these guys that leave and come back?
If you’re gonna leave… wait, sorry,…

Can we change the subject?

I just want to add that in general, I think the mods have done a good job in helping improve the overall tone on the site. There’s certainly a lot less flaming than before. But I guess there are still a number of posters whose principal contribution is to add sarcastic, inane, or non-sensical comments to threads, so I can see why threads are being pruned.

So, whereas I think the intentions are good, the implementation is, well, a bit overzealous and intrusive. I know the mods all do this on a voluntary basis with no reward, and I feel somewhat guilty knowing they’re wasting time pruning threads (especially if I’ve been party to a thread’s de-railing). Given that, a little “get back on target” post by a mod accomplishes two things: 1) It nudges a thread back in the right direction and 2) It saves mods time.

In my experience on message boards, if the posters believe the mods and site owners are doing what they’re doing for the sake of the site and overall good will of the community, then they’ll accept the moderation. It’s when things start happening in an anonymous and mysterious way (like posts and threads vanishing or being sent to the rubbish bin) that folks start to question what’s happening. It’s also heavy handed intrusion, like the renaming of threads by mods, that ticks people off.

Moderators are there to prevent traffic accidents and keep the roads clear, not to tell people which car to drive or which road to drive it on.

Just my 2 cents, and a shout out to the Good Folks who are volunteering on this site not for profit, but because they care. :bravo:

You should of posted the weekend I was supermod, I started 4 all porn threads myself! You snooze…

Deleting: It happens very rarely. Posts are actually moved to the moderator’s only forum, but that’s effectively deleting them. This happens with things like Chewy’s link to a porn site. Or hopefully SatTv’s gross picture above. The rule of thumb is that you should be able to browse Forumosa at a workplace where your bosses are prudes, or there may be children walking by. This isn’t about being PC or prudish - it’s about convenience for people who use the site at their workplaces.

Floundering: The Open Forum is for discussion. The Flounder Forum is for chit-chat and the like. Obviously there is a fine line a lot of the time, and (speaking for myself at least) we don’t think it’s really worth agonising over such details as whether or no the condiments thread was serious discussion or not. Snap decisions are made, so there will be inconsistnecies and mistakes. We put more serious thought and careful consideration into the more important things such as banning decisions. Whether something goes in Flounder or Open is really not that big a deal.

Brian

A few posts were just deleted from the doggy poo thread. Either that or it takes time to move them to flounder…
