You can see records of joint marital property somewhere, so I’m inclined to think the answer is yes. I don’t remember exactly where it is, but it’s a government site.

not all the couples do it, though.

In the old country, if you have someone´s ID number , you can check on the national registry website.
If Taiwan had something like this it would prevent Taiwanese businessmen from marrying abroad… in several countries. I can see how it may not be a thing.
